    • A system and a method for providing feedback control of the deposition of superabsorbent particles into an absorbent core at a specified rate are disclosed herein. A control system, such as a programmable logic control device, is used to receive feedback related to the operation of one or more elements of a vibratory feeder. Based on the feedback, the control system adjusts one or more elements of the vibratory feeder to synchronize the operation of the elements of the vibratory feeder. Particularly, the control system can be adapted to synchronize the deposition rate of superabsorbent particles into the absorbent core with the line speed of the absorbent core during ramp-up and ramp-down periods. Based on a predetermined line speed response during the ramp-up or ramp-down period, the control system can control one or more properties of the vibratory motion of a vibrator of the vibratory feeder in such a manner that the deposition rate of superabsorbent particles is proportional to the line-speed of the fibrous material being supplied so that a substantially uniform concentration of superabsorbent materials are deposited in the absorbent core during the ramp-up and ramp-down periods.

    • In the direct current circuit interruption arrangements disclosed in the specification, a solid state circuit interrupter interrupts the connection in a circuit path between a power source and a load. The stored energy in the circuit is dissipated in a resistive commutation circuit by using controllable power semiconductors such as Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors to increase resistance between the terminals of the circuit interruption arrangement. An in-line power semiconductor switch acts as the circuit disconnecting device and is shunted by a resistive commutation circuit consisting of a plurality of solid state commutation switches and resistors in various configurations which act to dissipate the energy. In one embodiment the solid state switches in the commutation circuit are connected to a common circuit interrupter terminal and to a resistor through a series of taps on the resistor and the resistor is connected to the other circuit interrupter terminal. In another embodiment, the commutation circuit consists of parallel branches each having a solid state switch in series with a resistor and each branch is shunted across the circuit interrupter. In a further embodiment, the circuit path between the power source and the load consists of a plurality of parallel cables and each cable has an in-line solid state switch with a shunted resistive commutation circuit. In each of the embodiments the in-line solid state switches are opened and the solid state commutation switches are closed simultaneously, introducing resistance into the circuit path. The commutation switches are then sequentially opened to further increase the circuit resistance and complete the circuit interruption without causing electric potentials to exceed the device ratings for the circuit interrupter.

    • This relates to a nest for receiving a container which is to be filled and thereafter have a lid applied thereto with the lid being sealed to the container by a sealing head in conjunction with the nest. Most particularly, there will be a plurality of such nests with the nests being carried by an endless conveyor chain. The endless conveyor chain is provided with special links which are elongated and wherein an upper one of each set of elongated links is adapted to have seated thereon a nest in supporting relation. Further, the chain links are connected together by customary pins which have been elongated so as to project upwardly above the chain. In conjunction with these projecting pins, the nest is provided with bores which receive the pins. Thus the nest may be readily placed on and removed from the conveyor chain. Each nest is in the form of a housing which defines a cavity for a container. An upper part of the cavity carries a seat member over which a flange of a container is engaged. The seat member also divides the cavity into a container receiving cavity and a vacuum chamber. Further, the upper surface of the nest surrounding the vacuum chamber is smooth so as to provide sealing engagement between the sealing head and the nest so that a vacuum may be first drawn within the nest and thereafter an inert gas provided thereto so that a vacuum may be drawn within a container prior to the closing thereof and the container filled with the gas. The seat member also provides an adequate support for the container and lid when the same are engaged by an induction heating coil so that the required bonding pressure may be applied thereto the lid.

    • This relates to closure assemblies for containers which are subject to tampering. This particularly relates to closure assemblies of the type which include a lever type actuator wherein the lever must be lifted to apply leverage to a closure plug portion to facilitate opening of the closure assembly. Such levers are customarily retained in place by rivets which include frangible portions. This particularly relates to the configuration of such rivets and the details of the lever wherein, once the lever has been pried from its original position and disengaged from the rivet, the lever or an end portion only thereof tilts upwardly due to the non-returnability of the rivet through its original opening thereby to present a visual indication of tampering which can be readily ascertained.
