The sulfur-containing polymerization terminator is selected from the group consisting of benzothiazoles, benzothiazolesulfenamides, thiurams and dithiocarbamates.

CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of esterifying a compound represented by the formula 1 and 1.2-1.4 mol of 1,4-butanediol based on the amount of the compound of the formula 1 with 100-1,000 ppm of a titanium compound and 500-1,500 ppm of triethylamine based on the weight of the compound of the formula 1; and condensation polymerizing the obtained one with 500-1,500 ppm of a phosphorus compound based on the weight of the compound of the formula 1 to prepare polybutylene terephthalate, wherein R is H or CH3. Preferably the titanium compound used as a catalyst is at least one selected from the group consisting of tetrabutyl titanate, tetraisopropyl titanate, tetraethyl titanate, tetra(2-ethylhexyl) titanate and tetraisopropyl(dioctyl) phosphite titanate; and the phosphoric acid used as a stabilizer is at least one selected from the group consisting of phosphoric acid, triphenyl phosphate, trimethyl phosphate, triisodecyl phosphite and tri(2,4-di-5-butylphenyl) phosphite.
