    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode catalyst wherein a large ring metal complex is dispersed on the surface of a carrier at a high degree and to provide its production method. SOLUTION: The electrode catalyst is provided with a carrier comprising a carbon material, a large ring metal complex wherein a metal ion is coordinated with a large ring molecule being carried on the surface of a carrier and containing nitrogen. A peak resulting from the metal ion-N linkage is found in the extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectrum of the metal ion. Such electrode catalyst is obtained by dissolving/dispersing the large ring metal complex and the carrier in a mixed solvent comprising a first solvent in which the large ring metal complex can be dissolved and a second solvent which has compatibility with the first solvent, has solubility of the large ring metal complex lower than that of the first solvent, and has a boiling point higher than that of the first solvent, volatilizing the first and the second solvents so as to cause the large ring metal complex to be adsorbed to the carrier surface, and then heating the carrier under inert atmosphere at a temperature of 500°C or higher and 700°C or lower.
