摘要： An adjustable batting tee is provided which includes a first plate member shaped like home plate, a second plate member spaced apart from the first plate member and an elongated armature adjustably interconnecting the first and second plate members such that the relative position of the second plate member with respect to the first plate member can be selectively adjusted. An upright ball support member is attached to the second plate member for supporting a ball to be hit that includes telescoping post members which permit the height of the ball to be selectively adjusted. The armature and uppermost post are flexible so as to absorb the forces generated by the user hitting the ball or ball support member.

摘要： 18.550. Scott, A. A., and Wright, R. Sept. 14. Smoke-consuming. -Hot air is supplied at the back of the fire-bridge of a steam-boiler furnace to promote combustion and consume smoke. The supply of air to a distributing-box at the back of the fire-bridge is controlled by a damper at the end of an air-supply pipe passing through the ash-pit. The damper is operated to admit air when the fire-door is opened and is closed automatically a short time after the fire-door is closed, the interval being determined by tumbler mechanism. The air is discharged under a grating which becomes red-hot and heats the air passing through it. The air box g preferably consists of two plates h, h , Fig. 6, with flanges h , h and air inlets and outlets arranged as shown. Air entering at an opening f in the bridge f is discharged through semicircular openings m between the ends of the grate bars m, which are shaped as shown. Air supplied through the pipe j is discharged below these grate bars. The damper k, controlling the supply of air, is closed by gravity and opened by the action of a projection y', carried by the fire-door, on a lever o connected to the damper as shown. The valve is held open by a catch lever n , Fig. 4, engaging the lever o. A short time after the furnace door is closed, this catch lever is operated to release the damper by pins y , y on a tumbler y . As the door is being closed, this tumbler is partly rotated by the action on a ratchet disk n of a pawl r, carried by a lever y passing through a circular slot l in the plate l and connected to the furnace door by a link y'. The half-rotation of the tumbler is completed after the desired interval by the weight of liquid &c. passing through one of the tubes p , Fig. 9, into the lower chamber p . According to the Provisional Specification, the damper controlling the air supply is connected by a chain &c. to a slide working in a guide-bracket at the front of the boiler behind the fire-door, to which the slide is connected by a hinged piece. An " automatic guiding " spring or other catch holds the chain when in the "up" position and can be released by the fireman or automatically by a tumbler. This tumbler is pivoted at its centre and is turned, each time the door is opened, by a chain and a chain-wheel and acts on a spring or other lever which acts on the chain catch. The tumbler has two chambers connected by a narrow passage, and contains heavy material such as mercury, iron filings, and pellets.
