    • Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zum Betrieb einer Zweiwalzengiessmaschine zum Vergiessen von Metallschmelzen, insbesondere Stahlschmelzen, zu gegossenem Band (B), die zwei Giesswalzen (2,3), welche um jeweils eine Drehachse (D2,D3) gegenlaeufig rotierend angetrieben werden und zwischen sich einen Giessspalt (4) an dessen Laengsseiten begrenzen, und mit an die Giesswalzen (2,3) zustellbare Seitenplatten (5,6), die im Giessbetrieb den Giessspalt (4) an dessen Schmalseiten abdichten, indem sie mit einem Feuerfestmaterial den Giessspalt (4) ueberbrueckend an den Stirnseiten der Giesswalzen (2,3) anliegen, wobei die Seitenplatten (5,6) waehrend des Giessbetriebs in einer Richtung (Z) bewegt werden, die parallel zu der Foerderrichtung (F) ausgerichtet ist, in der das gegossene Band (B) den Giessspalt (4) verlaesst. Bei einem solchen Verfahren kann mit erhoehter Sicherheit die Entstehung von das Giessergebnis und den Giessbetrieb stoerenden Grooves dadurch unterdrueckt und die Lebensdauer der Seitenplatten gegenueber dem Stand der Technik dadurch erhoeht werden, dass die Bewegung der Seitenplatten (5,6) erfindungsgemaess in der parallel zur Foerderrichtung (F) des gegossenen Bandes (B) gerichteten Richtung (Z) von Beginn des Giessvorgangs an kontinuierlich in Abhaengigkeit von der Giessgeschwindigkeit durchgefuehrt wird, mit der das gegossene Band (B) den Giessspalt (4) verlaesst.
