Posts.-A cable runs between the sections of a telescopic post and under rollers at the lower end of each section, so that the post can be extended by winding up the cable. Four lengths C, D, E, F of steel or iron tubing are shown in the Figures, the outer one C being closed by a base-plate a, which serves as a support for the tube D when lowered. The tubes D, E carry pins b, c, which support the tubes E, F respectively, and the three sliding tubes D, E, F are provided with friction rollers d. The tubes E, F carry grooved wheels e, f, which project through slots in the sides of the tubes. A collar g with a projection g is attached to the top of the tube F, the projection entering a V groove h to keep the tubes in their proper positions. Ropes G, H are attached to eyes g' on the collar g, are led through the eyes of pegs k in the ground, and are fastened to eyes i of a collar j on the tube D. The tubes D, E have pulleys to guide the chain or cable, and the tube C supports the handle winch I, consisting of a drum l, a ratchet m, and a retaining-pawl n. The handle o is provided with a ratchet wrench of ordinary construction, and the base-plate p of the winch is fastened to the tube C between straps s, t, by a wedge, locking bolt q, and swivel r The operating chain or cable K is fixed inside the tube E, and passes round the puiley f, up the opposite side, over the pulley 1, and similarly for the other tubes. In the arrangement shown, the tube D is drawn out by hand and fastened by a pin. The Provisional Specification states that the extended tubes may be secured in position by spring catches.
