Gas or explosive-vapour engines.-The cylinders of an internal-combustion engine are cooled by the air on its way to the vaporizer or by the carburetted air on its way to the cylinders. The openings 16, 17, 18 in the cylinder jacket and vaporizer are so situated that by suitably arranging the connexions 9, 11 the air can either enter at 10, cool the cylinders, and pass through the pipes 11 to the vaporizer 7, and thence to the valve-boxes 6 ; or first enter the carburettor, and pass through the pipes 11 to the cylinder jackets, and thence through the openings 16 to the valve-boxes 6.

Rotary filters or strainers.-The cylindrical casing d is caused to make approximately circular or elliptic oscillations so that radial impulses are given at all points on the surface of the rotary strainer n. The casing is connected to the standards by means of rubber aprons e, and is supported on two fork-shaped arms f, each of which is pivoted near its centre to a lever g by means of a common rod j, and is connected at its lower end to an eccentric i on a shaft h. The throw of the eccentrics can be varied. On the outer side of the pivots, the lever, g are attached to springs which cushion the weight of the casing and its contents. There are fly-wheels m on the shaft h. Tight joints are made at the ends of the casing by means of felt bands o, p, tightened by means of metal bands. The strainer is rotated by means of planetgear u, a shaft t, a pinion s, and a toothed rim r. The Specification in the original form, as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a), comprises also an arrangement in which the shaft passing through the joints of the arms f is journaled by means of slide blocks in vertical guides and an arrangement for guiding the joints similar to that of the Evan guide. This subject-matter-does not appear in the Specification as accepted.

Tyres, elastic other than pneumatic; felloes or rims. -A tyre for road vehicles comprises an outer rubber part 15 with strengthening-bands 16 resting on an inner part 14 of elastic rubber or the like in tension arranged to fit tightly in, and nearly to fill, the channel of the rim 4, which has outwardly inclined sides and a wide groove 13 in the base. The detachable flange 6 of the rim is in the form of a split ring having a projection 7 engaging in a groove in the rim, the ring being tightened by a right and left handed screw device.

[Addition to 6383/06.] Non-metallic elastic bodies and cores ; tyre attachments to rims.-Relates to the tyre described in the parent Specification, which comprises an outer band of hard india - rubber resting on an inner band of soft india-rubber, which is supported between tapering flanges and adapted to be forced into a groove in the felloe. According to the present invention, the hard part b is formed in one with the soft part a, which is rigidly 'secured by vulcanizing to the tapering flanges e. Each flange is formed of hard india-rubber, and is vulcanized to an angle-iron ring d. The tyre is secured to the felloe by plates g, formed with wedge-like ribs, which are bolted to the rings d and to the felloe ; or radial bolts k may be substituted. A tube h connects the groove c to the atmosphere in order to avoid the formation of an aircushion.
