    • 778,861. Band clips. HENNING, W. Nov. 26, 1954 [June 25, 1954; Sept. 1, 1954], No. 34308/54. Class 44. A clamping strap comprises a strip of metal of such a length that after being placed round the article to be gripped, its end portions overlap, a projection being provided adjacent the end of the underlying end portion, said projection engaging an aperture 14 in the overlying end portion when the two end portions are drawn together, characterized in that the projection consists of a rivet 12 loosely mounted in a bore 11, provided in the underlying and portion, said rivet having a lower rivet head 17 and an outwardly projecting upper rivet head 13 which engages the aperture in the overlying end portion when the two end portions are drawn together. The bore 11 may be of such size that the head 13 of the rivet can be passed through it or alternatively it can be smaller than the head which can be formed after the stem of the rivet is passed through the bore. Bores 4, 6 are also formed in each end of the strip, these bores being adapted to receive a tool by means of which the strap is tensioned round a hose pipe or the like until the aperture 14 engages the rivet. The tool is similar to a pair of pliers, the ends of the jaws being formed with annular grooves which engage the bores 4, 6. In a modification stamped up projections engageable by a flat-nosed tool are provided. One or more resilient arched portions 28, 29 may be formed in the strip so that a standard size can be provided which is adapted for use with articles of slightly variable diameter. When more than one such portion is provided, one is made more resilient than the other or others by providing the other or others with a rib 36. Such less resilient portions are made so that they overlie the opposite end of the strip.
