The turbine has a circumferential chamber (42) formed between a rotating band (40) and a stationary discharge ring (32). The chamber (42) has a gas admission aperture (50) for receiving an oxygen containing gas into the chamber (42). A downstream end portion (46) of the band (40) has a plurality of spaced apart vanes providing chamber (42) outlet passageways (58) between the vanes and through the band (40). The vanes (60) are configured to rotate with the band (40) and to draw the oxygen containing gas and water from the chamber (42) through the outlet passageways (58) in the band (40) and into the water passageway.

摘要： A rotary transformer has a bus duct assembly that extends through the hollow shaft of a rotary transformer from collector or slip rings positioned above a drive motor for the rotary transformer to end windings of the rotor positioned most remote from the drive motor. By positioning the leads of the bus duct connection with the rotor end windings on the rotor end windings most remote form the drive motor, the shaft strength and integrity is not reduced due to the torque applied by the drive motor. Further, the shaft is formed from two coupled shaft sections and the bus duct assembly comprises two L shaped sections each positioned substantially within a corresponding shaft section. The bus duct sections are interconnected to complete the bus duct assembly making it simpler to remove the first or upper shaft section from the second or lower shaft section during field servicing. Further, the use of the two bus duct sections within the shaft coupled together simplifies assembly of each bus duct section within its corresponding shaft section.

摘要： There is disclosed a groundwall insulation system for use in dynamoelectric machines carrying voltages above 4 kV and preferably in the order of 13.8 kV, or higher. The groundwall insulation comprises two layers of insulation wound onto the conductors of the high voltage winding. The first layer of insulation has a first permittivity that is greater then the permittivity of the second layer of insulation wound onto the first layer of insulation. As a consequence, at the juncture between the first and second layers there is a sharp increase in the electric field profile as seen through the groundwall insulation. This step increase in the electric field profile results in the electric field adjacent the conductor having a maximum magnitude that is less than that normally experienced by insulation systems in the past. By reducing the maximum magnitude of the local electric field profile within the groundwall insulation the life of the insulation and hence the electrical conductor is improved while at the same time permitting a reduction in the thickness of the groundwall insulation.

摘要： An elbow shaped draft tube (24) for a reaction hydraulic turbine has a splitter vane mounted within the draft tube that partially extends between 50 % and 80 % across the width of the draft tube to redirect flow about said elbow in the draft tube. The partial splitter vane (28) has opposing side edge surfaces spaced from the side walls of the draft tube to allow the peripheral flow to swirl around the splitter as it moves through the draft tube. The splitter vane does not result in any efficiency decrease for operating conditions below peak efficiency flow rates and still provides the full benefits at flow rates above the peak efficiency flow rate for a given head. The splitter vane results in much lower static and dynamic loads due to its smaller surface area and minimal blockage of the swirl component of the flow. A plurality of support posts (44) are embedded at one end in the draft tube and connected at the other end to position the splitter vane in non-contacting relation with the side walls of the draft tube.

摘要： A deflector for use in a hydraulic turbine is adapted to be mounted relative to a vertically extending wall (44) of the draft tube. The deflector (46) has an upstream plate (138) and a downstream plate (140). The upstream plate (138) is positioned to extend downwardly and outwardly from the wall (44) of the draft tube and the downstream plate (140) is positioned to extend downwardly and inwardly from the upstream plate (138). The downstream plate (140) has at least one elongated air communication port (170) extending therethrough and adjacent the upstream plate (138). An air supply inlet portion (200) extends from the wall (44) of the draft tube into the deflector (46) above the elongated air communication port (170) permitting an oxygen containing gas to flow from the air supply inlet portion (200) downwardly through the deflector (46), out the elongated air communication port (170) and into the water flowing past the downstream plate (140) so as to enhance the dissolved oxygen content of the water.

摘要： An insulated core stud for use in the core structure of at least one of a stator and a rotor of a dynamoelectric machine is adapted to pass through holes contained in laminations of the core structure. The insulated core stud has a central portion and a first layer of heat shrinkable tubular insulation shrunk fit onto and covering at least the central portion of the core stud that passes through the laminations. One or more additional layers of heat shrinkable tubular insulation are shrunk fit onto at least a portion of the first layer of insulation that passes through the laminations. These second layers provide mechanically protection to the underlying layers of insulation against breaks occurring in the electrical insulation when the laminations and core studs are assembled into the core structure.
