    • A shaft seal assembly for sealing along a rotor shaft is provided. The shaft seal assembly includes a seal housing, annular inner and outer seal members, an annular middle element, and an end plate. The seal housing has a seal member bore and a shaft bore. The annular inner and outer seal members are configured to be disposed in the seal member bore. The middle element is disposed between the inner seal member and the outer seal member within the seal member bore. The end plate is attached to the seal housing and covers a portion of the seal member bore. The middle element biases the inner seal member against the seal housing and biases the outer seal member against the end plate.

    • A shaft coupling device is provided that includes a first portion, a second portion, a pair of buttons, a biasing member, and at least one button stop. The first portion has a female couple section and a first device mounting section. The second portion has a male couple section and a second device mounting section. The male couple section is configured so as to be receivable within the cavity of the female couple section. The biasing member, the button stop, and at least a portion of the first and second buttons are disposed within the second cavity of the male couple section, with the biasing member disposed between the buttons, biasing the buttons radially outwardly. The button stop limits the radially inward travel of the buttons.

    • A system is provided for damping vertical oscillations of an elevator car stopped at an elevator landing. The system includes an elevator traction sheave that receives a torque, a sensor that provides a sensor signal indicative of the torque, a controller that provides a control signal based on the sensor signal, and a motor that applies the torque to the sheave. Oscillations in the torque correspond to the vertical oscillations of the car stopped at the landing during a first (e.g., position control) mode of operation. The motor drives the sensor signal towards a baseline value in response to receiving the control signal during a second (e.g., constant torque control) mode of operation in order to reduce the vertical oscillations of the car.
