摘要： Plastic layers, containing a polymer A (refractive index: Na) and a refractive index adjusting agent having a refractive index different from that of the polymer A, are applied on an inner surface of a hollow cylindrical body rotating on its axis by using CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) or a coating method so as to provide a base material for a plastic optical fiber wherein the refractive index gradually decreases with the distance from the center toward the periphery. The proportion of the polymer A and the refractive index adjusting agent in the plastic layers can be varied so that the refractive index may gradually increase.

摘要： An optical fiber array having an optical coupling end where another optical path is coupled to it. On this optical coupling end, ends of plural optical fibers are arranged. This optical fiber array comprises a lower plate (3a) where a plurality of V grooves are formed to position the optical fibers exposed at the end of the core, and an upper plate (3b) which presses the optical fibers (1) arranged in the grooves (4) in the lower plate (3b) against the V grooves (4). The boundary parts of the cores (7) and optical fibers (1) are fixed by a heat-resistant bonding agent (10) between the upper and lower plates (3a and 3b). Further, the optical fibers (1) from this boundary parts are airtightly fixed by solder (6). In this way, it is possible to implement a high hermetic seal having a sufficient airtightness.

The production process comprises compacting the starting material comprising amorphous composite powder composed of a silicon, nitrogen and carbon elements together with a sintering aid, subjecting the compacted powder to primary sintering at 1,350 to 1,650 °C in a nitrogen atmosphere followed by secondary sintering at 1,600 to 1,900 °C, and causing silicon carbide deposited in the silicon nitride grains at 1,800 to 2,200 °C to migrate toward the grain boundaries. The process can provide ceramic material which is excellent in strengths and fracture toughness and can be used as high-temperature structural material for automotive engines and so forth.

Thus, phase transformation of 2212 phases mainly composing the raw material is suppressed so that a large amount of 2223 phases having a relatively high critical temperature are formed when heat treatment is performed after metal coating.
