    • A method is described for producing articles having a metal core, an intermediate powder metallurgy layer, and an exterior wear- and chip-resistant layer on the portions thereof requiring the same, which comprises:applying to a bearing metal core, powdered steel alloy containing about 3.5% nickel by weight by cold isostatic compaction in a compressible mold under a pressure of about 6000 atmospheres to provide an intermediate powder metallurgical layer having a density of about 90%;sintering said intermediate layer on said core in an atmosphere of hydrogen at about 1200.degree. C. for about one hour;applying a wear- and chip-resistant layer to selected portions of said sintered intermediate powder metallurgical layer by plasma spraying; andhot isostatically compacting the sprayed article in a thin-walled deep-drawn vessel of low carbon steel having a wall thickness of about 0.5 mm in which the article to be compacted is surrounded by ceramic powder under a pressure of about 1600 atmospheres at a temperature of about 1100.degree. C. for about two hours, to achieve a firm bond between said intermediate layer and said wear- and chip-resistant layer, and a composite density for said layers of about 99%.

    • A cage for a rolling element bearing, comprising elastically deformable prongs, each pair of prongs defining a cage pocket in which a rolling element can be accommodated by snapping-in. The thickness dimension of each prong, perpendicular with respect to its surface facing the corresponding cage pocket, is gradually diminishing, in the direction towards the free end of the prong. Preferably, the thickness dimension of each prong is diminishing, in general, according to a parabolic function. Thereby, the highest possible retaining force for the rolling elements is obtained, and yet the strains in the prongs upon assembly of the rolling elements are as low as possible.

    • A homokinetic coupling which has a housing or outer ring with a cavity limited by a spherical surface and open toward the outside at least one edge. An inner ring, having an outer spherical surface with axially extending grooves is placed within this cavity. A set of balls flattened at one edge is accommodated at that edge in the grooves. The bottoms of the grooves form a rolling surface along which the balls are capable of moving by the flattened edge. At the other edge the balls are accommodated, rotating by the spherical edge in a recess forming a part of the housing. The housing has a plurality of rotating ball-shaped elements with a recess in each element, in which recess the spherical edge of the respective ball is partially accommodated.
