The operation of an automatically adjustable brake linkage rod is generally similar to that described in Specification 671,663 except that when the rod is stressed, outside the braking periods, by shocks of such force as to cause a slight backward motion ot the spring 32 towards the ring 13, a spring 31 acting through the take-up dish 30 and tubular push element 51 holds the dishes 19 against the rollers 41 and prevents the bar 34 from moving out. The rod is also modified in that it has a simple light protection tube 11 at one end and the return spring 32 is of smaller diameter and surrounds the tube 23 of the sheath, the walls of which since they have only to withstand the tension of the return spring, may be made thin. Since the enclosing body comprising the tube 11 and box 12 is not mobile grease plugs may be mounted thereon to lubricate the internal mechanism. Furthermore when the regulator is lengthened, the distance by which the protection tube 36 protrudes from the head 25 indicates immediately the length by which the regulator has been lengthened.
