    • There is disclosed a data transmitting and receiving circuit extremely advantageous when applied to a key telephone system. The data transmitting circuit comprises a voltage dividing circuit for dividing a power supply voltage to apply the divided voltage to one end of a primary winding of a transformer, and a driver circuit comprising a pair of transistors connected in series between the power supply and a common potential terminal, the node of the transistors being connected to the other end of the primary winding of the transformer. When data signal is transmitted, the data transmitting circuit is operative to complementarily turn and off the pair of transistors in accordance with the data signal. In contrast, when data is not transmitted, the data transmitting circuit is operative to cut off both the transistors. Thus, the data transmitting circuit can eliminate the possibility that a DC voltage on which a data signal to be transmitted is superimposed undesirably changes. Further, the data receiving circuit comprises a voltage divider common to the above-mentioned voltage dividing circuit, a comparator having a comparison input connected to the other end of the secondary winding of the transformer, and a reference voltage supply circuit for selecting either of two reference voltages depending upon a binary output level of the comparator to deliver the selected one to the reference input of the comparator. Thus, the data receiving circuit can provide a stable and steady receiving condition when a data signal superimposed on a DC voltage is received to change the data signal into a binary received signal.

    • An electronic key telephone system which features a bi-directional serial data stream for transmission of control signalling between common control and station circuitry over a single power/data conductor pair independent of the speech conductor pair. The common control central processor includes clock and timing logic circuitry for defining a serial multiphase bit stream of clock and data pulses, each clock pulse initiating a new bit position. Frame intervals are defined by one or more bit positions devoid of both a clock pulse and data information. Common and proprietary data information in the form of unipolar binary signals is multiplexed onto the serial bit stream either at the central processor, at a station circuit, or at the station, and interlaced with clock pulses at predetermined word and bit positions within each frame for communication among the various system circuit elements. Use of the serial data stream transmission scheme simplifies the station electronics such that conventional single line telephone instruments may be configured for use in an electronic key telephone system.

    • A telephone station set (S1) is arranged to communicate voice signals over a voice communication pair (V1) and to communicate ringing, switchhook supervision and visual signaling over a separate signaling pair (C1). An amplitude and polarity modulated alternating voltage on the signaling pair (C1) provides current flow in one direction for visual signaling while distinguishable amounts of current flow in the opposite direction to provide switchhook and ringing supervision. The switchhook supervision current and the ringing signal current both flow through a series connection of a buzzer (B1) and a break switchhook contact (SH2) in the telephone station set. An off-hook condition at the telephone interrupts current flow on the signaling pair (C1) providing a switchhook supervision signal while simultaneously terminating the ringing signal.

    • The disclosure relates to a four conductor circuit arrangement providing two communication channels between a control unit and a terminal device. Power feed and bi-directional signalling are accomplished simultaneously over the same four conductors used for the two commmunication channels without interference. The signalling from the control unit to the terminal is accomplished by means of a voltage modulator circuit in the control unit by which voltage pulses are transmitted via a phantom circuit arrangement over the four conductors to the terminal unit. The voltage pulses are sensed from the phantom circuit in a data receiver which is located at the terminal unit. Connected to the phantom circuit in the terminal unit is a voltage regulator circuit which receives power from the control unit via the four conductor phantom circuit interconnecting the control unit and the terminal. In series with the voltage regulator circuit is a constant current sink and an inductor. A current modulator circuit is provided in parallel for impressing current data pulses generated in the terminal onto the phantom circuit, which are, in turn, received by a receiver circuit in the control unit.A preferred data format is disclosed as a method for transmitting information between the control unit and the terminal.The preferred embodiment for the disclosed four conductor communication circuit and the disclosed data format is in a key telephone system in which the control unit is a station card in a key service unit and the terminal is a key telephone station set.

    • A digital concentrator system for use with a plurality of digital transmission systems is disclosed. The concentrator is employed at a central office terminal (100), and at a remote terminal (102), with an interconnecting digital transmission path (108). In the transmit direction at each terminal (110, 112), a plurality of multiplexed encoded signal streams are demultiplexed and the encoded signals stored. A selected number of encoded signals are retrieved and multiplexed for transmission to a distant terminal (112, 110) as a concentrated pulse stream (123,175). In the receive direction at each terminal (110, 112), the encoded signals in the multiplexed concentrated stream (125, 177) are demultiplexed and stored. The stored encoded signals are retrieved and the original number of encoded signal streams derived for transmission to the transmission terminal (100, 102). Supervisory and control communication between the two concentrator terminals (110, 112) is achieved by way of data messages on a derived data link. Operation between the transmit and receive directions at each terminal is asynchronous and controlled by a microcomputer (124, 160).
