    • A multi-seal retainer assembly is provided that is suitable for use in connection with a valve assembly for an internal combustion engine. The retainer assembly includes a plurality of valve stem seals and at least one connector, wherein the connector is connected to two adjacent valve stem seals to form a linkage or a web of valve steam seals. The connectors may contain one or more handling portions to improve manual of mechanical handling of the assembly. Further, the configuration of the retainer assembly may be designed to correspond to the valve guide configuration of a specific engine head. A method for making the retainer assembly in accordance with the principles of the invention is also disclosed.

    • The present invention is a valve seal assembly used to prevent the lubricating fluid used to lubricate a valve stem and valve guide from entering the combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine. The valve seal assembly has an outer side surface that sealingly engages the engine housing of the internal combustion engine. The valve seal assembly is also preferably located near the end of the valve guide that is closest to the combustion chamber. The valve seal assembly also includes a resilient sealing element that has an improved sealing lip for preventing the lubricating fluid from traveling past the sealing lip. The sealing lip is also positioned in order to extend the operating life and effectiveness of the valve seal assembly.

    • A support member 10 having a tubular portion 11 is joined at an end portion of a muffler pipe 1. The support member 10 forms a flange 12 as a valve seat and a support bracket 14. The support bracket 14 has a valve disk 20 supported rotatably via a hinge axis 15. The valve disk 20 has an outer peripheral portion 12 as a contact surface with the valve seat, and a weight 30 is welded to a bead portion 23 with an inner portion thereof projecting to the back face. A spring is wound around the hinge axis, with one end 18 engaging a back face of the valve wall 21 for the valve disk, the other end engaging a support bracket. The resonance frequency is decreased by the weight, thereby preventing the beat sound from arising in a normal range of the engine speed. The weight is welded to the bead portion, thereby not causing the outer peripheral portion 23 as the contact surface to be distorted.

    • An internal combustion engine having one or more power pistons reciprocating in one or more cylinders has at least one fuel inlet valve of the piston type at each cylinder. An inlet valve sleeve has an open end at the top of the cylinder and has fuel inlet ports situated away from the cylinder. A valve piston in the sleeve is movable towards the cylinder and away from the cylinder by an actuator system to open and close the valve. The actuator system varies timing and duration of the open periods of the valve to control engine power output thereby eliminating any need for a throttle valve and its attendant power losses. Valve piston movement also varies the effective compression ratio in the engine cylinder as a function of power output thereby further increasing fuel efficiency.

    • An intake valve includes a floating seat for attaining variable valve timing. A valve stem is integral with a valve head base. The valve head base includes a region for accommodating a peripheral ring in vertically-actuable relationship. The region of the valve head base for accommodating the peripheral ring includes a vertical locking portion and an upwardly-convex portion that mates with an downwardly-concave portion of the interior of the peripheral ring. A port may be arranged to vent gases at an upwardly-sloping portion of the bottom of the interior of the peripheral ring, thereby preventing instantaneous gas seepage while the peripheral ring is elevated. The vertical locking arrangement is positioned at the inner circumference of the peripheral ring to permit adjustment of peripheral ring travel without adding to the mass of the valve head.

    • A valve stem seal assembly includes a retainer with an elastomeric seal body bonded to the interior of the retainer. The seal body includes first and second annular sealing members that engage a valve stem and valve guide, respectively. The seal body also includes a third annular sealing member that protrudes slightly below a bottom surface of a lower flanged portion of the retainer, adapted to engage a cylinder head. Poor machining of the valve guide, and or the cylinder head, often creates a leak path for oil to flow beneath the seal, and through openings between valve guide and cylinder head. The third annular sealing member seals the leak path. The elastomeric seal body also includes axially disposed ribs near the bottom of the retainer with window-like exposed metal spacer areas between ribs, which lowers cost of the seal assembly through reduced amount of elastomeric material required for manufacture.
