    • A tool-bit holder (10) for varying tool-bit shank profiles comprising a hub (12) having a longitudinal bore (28) adapted for receiving a tool-bit shank (66, 70, 80). The hub (12) has a plurality of radial slots (38) communicating with the first section (30) of the longitudinal bore (28). The tool-bit holder (10) has a collar (14) fixedly attached to the hub (12) adjacent the open (29) and disposed annularly about the hub (12). A sleeve (16) is axially slidably mounted and disposed annularly about the hub (12). The sleeve (16) has a plurality of radial bores (48), each being in communication with a respective radial slot (38) of the hub (12) with a detent ball (18) disposed within each. A spring (20) is provided for biasing the sleeve (16) towards the open end (29) wherein the detent ball (18) engages an inner ramp face (46) of the collar (14).

    • The invention relates to a drill or milling head, especially for printed-circuit board milling machines and engraving machines, having a collet chuck (11) which can be actuated by a rapid change mechanism and which is driven by a gearbox. The collet chuck is opened by means of an axial displacement with regard to a clamping sleeve (50), whereby the force necessary for the displacement is transmitted via a friction clutch. The gearbox has a ball bearing (9) whose balls are moved around a common axis in a concentric manner by means of an carrier part fixed on a motor drive shaft (5). In addition, the balls are mounted between two bearing surfaces which are aligned in a concentric manner with regard to the axis and which have a circular cross-section. The balls are also at least partially engaged with said bearing surfaces in a positive manner. The bearing surfaces, of which one can rotate and the other is fixed, are axially aligned and, symmetric to one another, are curved in a concave manner, whereby the maximum distance between the convex surfaces is equal to the ball diameter. The balls are axially actuated with a force. According to the inventive drill or milling head, simple means make it possible to drive the collet chuck at a different speed than that of the motor.
