    • A first, three-part sub-assembly has a wire line retrievable spear at one end, with the spear having two fluid chambers joined by a first truncated, inverted cone valve seat between the two fluid chambers which are in fluid communication with each other and with the annulus surrounding the spear through a portal in the sidewall of the spear. A diverter valve having a second truncated, inverted cone valve seat is threaded into the interior of the spear. A diverter valve stem having back-to-back cones is located within the interior of the spear/diverter valve combination, with one of the cone valves having a linear extension which prevents the first cone from completely seating against the valve seat within the interior of the spear. The spear/diverter valve assembly is located within the spear of the cylinder having a removable end cap. A spring-­loaded piston is placed within the interior of the cylinder and uses an adjustable ring within the interior of the cylinder as an adjustment for varying mud weights. The removable end cap is secured to the spear sub-assembly by one or more shear pins.

    • A modular cooling system adapter (30) for coupling to an orifice and applying pressure from a source of pressurized gas. The adapter includes a universal cooling orifice fitting (36) for attaching the device to cooling system orifices of various sizes and configurations. The adapter (30) may include a pressure adapter for coupling to a source of pressurized gas, such that the pressure adapter (34) can be interchanged with other diagnostic tools including a valve assembly, a valve assembly incorporating a temperature probe and gauge and/or a pressure gauge. Additionally, the cooling system adapter is fully modular in that it allows quick disassembly for replacement of components and interchangeability of diagnostic tools.
