    • PURPOSE: A field emission display device is provided to prevent a cross-talk with neighbor pixels by effectively focusing the electron beam emitted from a plane electron source. CONSTITUTION: A field emission display device comprises a front substrate(2) and a rear substrate(4) opposed each other with a predetermined gap formed between the front and rear substrates; a gate electrode(6) formed into a line pattern on the rear substrate opposed to the front substrate; an insulating layer(8) formed on the rear substrate in such a manner that the insulating layer covers the gate electrode; a cathode electrode(10) formed into a line pattern crossing the gate electrode on the insulating layer, and which has through holes(16) formed in each of pixel areas; an opposed electrode(18) connected to the gate electrode in the through hole; an emitter(20) serving as a carbon based plane electron source disposed on the cathode electrode arranged in the vicinity of one side of the through hole parallel to the cathode electrode; an anode electrode(12) formed on the front substrate opposed to the rear substrate; and a phosphor film(14) arranged on the surface of the anode electrode.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a field emission cathode device and a field emission display. SOLUTION: The field emission cathode device includes an insulating substrate, a plurality of band-shaped cathodes insulated and arranged parallel to each other on the insulating substrate at an interval, a plurality of field emission units arranged on the surface of the plurality of band-shaped cathodes and electrically connected with the cathodes, an insulating layer arranged on the surface of the insulating substrate to cover a part of a region of the plurality of band-shaped cathodes and with through-holes provided at positions facing each of the field emission units, and a plurality of band-shaped gate electrodes insulated from and arranged parallel to each other at an interval, covering the plurality of through-holes of the insulating layer, and with their long axes perpendicularly crossing those of the band-shaped cathodes on a flat surface different from that of the band-shaped cathodes. The band-shaped gate electrodes are arranged inside in a surface direction of the insulation layer and fixed to it.
