    • A device for measuring the fluid density of a two-phase mixture flowing through a tubular member. A rotor assembly is rotatively supported within the tubular member so that it can also move axially within the tubular member. The rotor assembly is balanced against a pair of springs which exert an axial force in the opposite direction upon the rotor assembly. As a two-phase mixture flows through the tubular member it contacts the rotor assembly causing it to rotate about its axis. The rotor assembly is forced against and partially compresses the springs. Means are provided to measure the rotational speed of the rotor assembly and the linear displacement of the rotor assembly. From these measurements the fluid density of the two-phase mixture is calculated.

    • Apparatus for measuring the density of a dirty fluid, said apparatus comprising a hollow body adapted to have said dirty fluid passing through its interior; a rigid support member within which the hollow body is mounted and to which it is connected to provide a space therebetween adapted to contain a clean fluid; drive means for exciting said hollow body to vibrate at a resonant frequency; detecting means for detecting a density signal representative of the frequency of such vibrations, the frequency of said density signal in operation being dependent upon the density of said dirty fluid; and pressure transmitting means for transmitting the pressure of dirty fluid passing through the interior of the hollow body to the clean fluid in said space, so that the exterior of the hollow body is always subjected to substantially the same pressure as the interior thereof.

    • The invention resides in apparatus for directly measuring density altitude in an aircraft and includes a housing in communication with ambient conditions of air temperature, pressure and humidity outside the aircraft. A rotor having dynamically balanced blade elements is positioned rotatably within the housing. An electric motor is connected so as to drive the rotor within the housing against the resistance therein of the air under the ambient conditions of temperature, pressure and humidity. An operational characteristic of the motor, such as the current which it draws, is continuously sampled, amplified and changed in shape and applied as the input to a display device which is calibrated to display the input in terms of density altitude.
