摘要： A bonding structure for a container member is disclosed. The container member (1) has an opening and a covering member (2) for covering the opening. The container member and covering member are abutted with each other and bonded by a friction stir welding operation. The bonding structure for the container and covering members comprises a bonding portion and a backing member (12). The bonding portion of the container member and the covering member is formed by inserting a friction stir welding tool (7a) into an abutting portion of the container member and the covering member. The backing member is provided for obstructing a plastic flow of materials for the container member and the covering member when the friction stir welding operation is performed. The backing member is disposed adjacent to the bonding portion, at a side of the abutting portion that is opposite to an inserting side of the friction stir welding tool.

The outward portions of the end cover (30) extend in a radial direction but not in an axial direction. The end cover (30) preferably does not extend axially beyond a plane of a clutch (42) supported within the assembly. The impeller outer wall (28) extends axially beyond the plane where it is secured to the end cover (30). The inventive arrangement changes the location of the connection between the impeller outer wall (28) and the end cover (30), which enables the use of various other optional and advantageous features of the inventive arrangement. In one example, the impeller outer wall (28) is welded to the end cover (30). In another example, a threaded connection secures the impeller outer wall (28) to the end cover (30).

Said torque transmitting device comprises at least one joining element that is mounted on an inner circumferential surface of a cover of the torque converter, a lockup clutch, and at least one elastic element that is connected to the joining element and the piston plate. The clutch encompasses a piston plate with pressed rivets while the elastic element is connected to the piston plate with the aid of the pressed rivets. Some embodiments have the following characteristics: the clutch comprises a frictional material with an inner radius and an outer radius, and the pressed rivets are disposed at a radial distance that is greater than the inner radius; the pressed rivets are arranged between the inner radius and the outer radius; a radial segment for the joining element extends from the inner surface in a radial direction and is fitted with an edge at a radial distance which is greater than the inner radius; or the elastic element is located between the inner radius and the outer radius.
