摘要： A brake adjuster is provided for a vehicle brake such as for heavy duty vehicle. The brake adjuster includes a brake module that produces an electrical signal for adjusting the vehicle brake. The heavy duty vehicle brake typically includes a pair of pistons each having first and second portions that are movable relative to one another. A friction element or brake pad is arranged proximate to the second portion and is movable from a desired position to a worn position as the brake pads wear during operation of the vehicle. In one embodiment of the present invention, the first and second portions are slip fit within a sleeve assembly. At least one adjustment member is arranged between the first and second portions. The adjustment member is constructed from a material which expands in response to an electrical signal, such as a magnetostrictive or a piezoelectric material. The adjustment member moves the second portion relative to the first portion and repositions the brake pads from the worn position to the desired position. In another embodiment, the first and second portions are threaded to one another and movable rotationally relative to one another to adjust the length of the piston. The first portions of the pistons include a plurality of teeth about the outer face. A gear is arranged between the pistons and coupled the teeth of the first portions together. An electric actuator has a driven member that is coupled with at least a portion of one of the pistons teeth to rotate the first and second portions relative to one another to increase the length of the piston and move the brake pad from the worn position to the desired position.

The cable release apparatus includes a lever having one end thereof fixedly attached to the shaft and extending outward from the shaft for applying a force to the lever, for rotating the shaft back and forth through an angular displacement between the first and second angular positions. A cable is operatively connected to the lever in a manner allowing the shaft to rotate freely back and forth through the angular displacement of the shaft between the first and second angular positions without movement of the cable from a non-engaged position of the cable, and for engaging and applying a tensile force from the cable to the lever for rotating the shaft to the first position from any point in the angular displacement between the first and second angular positions of the shaft.

At the start of braking, the auxiliary motor (14) is actuated in advance of the brake power motor (6), causing application of the vehicle friction brake through the adjustment element. The brake power motor is then activated and tightly clamps shut the friction brake. The brake linkage is particularly suitable as a brake clamp (5) for disc brakes, the vent play regulator then being integrated into the pull rod (11).

According to the invention, the parking brake device acts on the brake piston and can be locked by means of a locking device once the brake is applied and comprises an energy accumulator that has at least one integrated spring element and co-operates with the brake piston. The aim of the invention is to provide a simple, cost-effective parking brake function that complies with legal requirements. To achieve this, the parking brake device can be actuated by a pressure that is regulated in the service pressure chamber (7) and that can be used to charge the energy accumulator (10).
