    • A fluid working machine comprises a controller (12) and a working chamber (2) of cyclically varying volume. The working, chamber has both an electronically controllable primary low pressure valve (14) and a secondary low pressure port (22) associated therewith, each of which is openable and closable in phased relation to cycles of working chamber volume to bring the working chamber into fluid communication with a low pressure manifold (16, 26). At least the primary low pressure valve is under the active control of the controller to enable the controller to determine the net displacement of fluid by the working chamber on a cycle by cycle basis. The primary low pressure valve and the secondary low pressure port are openable concurrently during a portion of at least some cycles of working chamber volume to enable fluid to flow into or out of the working chamber concurrently through both the primary low pressure valve and the secondary low pressure port. The primary low pressure valve may be closed under the active control of the controller a period of time after the secondary low pressure port closes.

    • An air compressor assembly includes a cylinder housing, an outlet receptacle disposed on the cylinder housing, and a partition having an air passage formed between the cylinder housing and the outlet receptacle, and a piston slidably received in the cylinder housing for generating a pressurized air, the partition includes a channel communicating with the chamber of the cylinder housing, and the cylinder housing includes a compartment formed in a casing and communicating with the channel of the partition for partially receiving the pressurized air and for buffering purposes. A regulating valve is engaged in the casing for adjusting the volume of the compartment of the casing.

    • A method of controlling a piston pump is disclosed. The method includes actuating a plurality of pistons housed within a cylinder barrel to cause each of the plurality of pistons to engage in reciprocating motion. Fluid supplied to each of the pistons may be regulated by changing a clock position of an intake cam ring to cause a plurality of intake valves to open and close relative to the clock position of the intake cam ring. Fluid discharged by each of the pistons may be regulated by changing a clock position of an exhaust cam ring to cause a plurality of exhaust valves to open and close relative the clock position of the exhaust cam ring.
