摘要： A winding device has an axially-adjustable spindle assembly for winding a variety of elongated flexible materials into windings or spiral coils, including without limitation flat-web, garden hose, strand, twined, braided or woven rope or the like, electric cord or even strings of holiday lights and so on. The winding device comprises a pair of side frames, one which is driven in revolutions and the other which is generally stationary. The side frames have inboard surfaces facing each other and outboard surfaces facing away. One side frame has a hollow tubular sleeve extending away from about the center of its inboard surface while the other side frame has a cylindrical spindle stub extending away from about the center of its respective inboard surface. The spindle stub telescopes into the tubular sleeve such that the side frames can revolve/rotate relative each other, close the gap between each other, or pull apart.

摘要： A string of holiday lights and storage device and method that includes a spool made of two coaxially aligned, circular plates spaced apart by at least a transversely aligned first axle. The axle is attached to a handle located outside the circular plate which allows the axle to be manually rotated. Located parallel to the first axle is a second axle located between the circular plates or two lateral extending arms. Disposed between the two axles is a wide, flexible support strap designed to be wound in opposite directions onto each axle. During use, the end of a string of holiday lights is inserted against the inside surface of the support strap. As the strap is wound onto the first axle, the string of lights is also automatically wound into the first axle so that it is held in position against the outer surface of the axle.

The container has an internal cavity accessible through a central lid covered opening in which accessories, such as ornaments and the like, are supported on circumferentially spaced, radially inwardly directed hangers alternately secured at staggered heights to the container side wall. Below the hangers are compartments for other accessories, especially fragile ornaments, which extend around a vertical post supporting a large tree topping ornament. A hood can extend down over the side wall to protect the strings of lights. A handle or hook for lifting and hanging the apparatus can project through an opening in the hood.

The device in accordance with the invention includes a vertically disposed rotatable spindle. The icicle light string can be conveniently wound on the spindle by rotating the spindle in the direction of winding. When it is desired to mount the lights after a period of storage, the light strings can be readily unwound from the rotatable spindle and directly mounted at desired locations.
