    • A tamper-indicating child-resistant package includes a container having a finish with an open mouth and an external circumferential bead spaced from the mouth. A closure has a skirt for externally encircling the container finish, a tamper band frangibly connected to the skirt for positioning beneath the external circumferential bead on the container finish, and a spring element for engaging the finish and biasing the closure away from the finish. The finish and the skirt have interlocking elements that resist removal of the closure from the finish absent force against the spring element to disengage the interlocking elements. Engagement of the tamper band with the external circumferential bead ruptures the frangible connection of the band to the skirt upon first removal of the closure from the container finish to indicate potential tampering with the package.

    • A cap and vial system which allows a common cap to be used to seal each of several sizes of pharmaceutical vials, thus precluding the need for pharmacists to maintain an inventory of a differently sized cap for each specific vial size. Each of the vials has a mouth opening of common diameter, with smaller vials being tapered down at a location beneath the mouth opening a greater amount than larger vials which are not tapered down as much. The cap may be reversible to engage with the differently sized vials in a child-resistant manner on one side of the cap, and in a non-child-resistant manner on the other side of the cap.

    • A moisture proof vial and closure system are provided which may be used in a child-resistant mode or in a non-child resistant mode. In the child-resistant mode locking lugs 22 on the closure are interlocked with bayonnet slots on the vial. A non-child resistant operation in a moisture proof system may be achieved by providing an integral sealing plug 21 extending from the top of the closure and by adding a detenting means 51 inside of the container to engage and hold the sealing plug 21 against sliding outwardly of the container. A simple push inward will force the sealing plug 21 home to its sealing position to seal the medicine in the vial, and a simple push or pull on the closure to force the fitment from the detenting means is needed to remove the closure. The preferred detenting means 51, 15 is in the form of radially inwardly directed projections 52 formed on the interior container wall to abut and restrain the sealing plug against inadvertent sliding from the container. For the child-resistant mode, the sealing bead 50 on closure 10 is carried on sealing plug 39 which is formed on a discrete and separable fitment 40, while in the non-child resistant mode, the sealing plug 21 is integral with the top wall 18 of the closure.
