    • A vehicle skid control system including a wheel speed transducer, skid control circuitry responsive to the transducer for generating a control current output and a skid control valve responsive to the control current for providing single-gain control in a skid control mode. The skid control valve includes a first stage for generating a control pressure which is controlled exclusively by the current output of the valve driver, which control pressure is representative of the threshold pressure which an input metered pressure should not exceed if a skid condition is to be avoided. The control valve further includes a second stage pressure balancing system responsive to the pressure for allowing the metered supply pressure to be applied to a brake port as long as the metered pressure does not exceed the first stage control pressure. When the metered pressure exceeds the control pressure the second stage becomes operative to modulate the brake port pressure in accordance with the control pressure completely independently of variations in the metered pressure as long as the metered pressure remains above the control pressure from the first stage, thereby providing the single gain characteristic in the skid control mode.

    • A microvalve device for controlling fluid flow in a fluid circuit (10). The microvalve device comprises a body (12) having a cavity formed therein. The body further has first (20) and second (22) pilot ports placed in fluid communication with the cavity. The body also has first (28) and second (30) primary ports placed in fluid communication with the cavity. Each port is adapted for connection with a designated fluid source. A pilot valve (36) supported by the body is movably disposed in the cavity for opening and closing the first and second pilot ports. An actuator (38) is operably coupled to the pilot valve for moving the pilot valve. A microvalve (40) is positioned by the fluid controlled by the pilot valve. The microvalve is a slider valve having a first end (40a) and a second end (40b). The slider valve is movably disposed in the cavity for movement between a first position and a second position. The first end of the slider valve is in fluid communication with the first and second pilot ports when the first and second pilot ports are open. The second end of the slider valve is in constant fluid communication with the first primary port. When moving between the first and second positions, the slider valve at least partially blocks and unblocks the second primary port for the purpose of variably restricting fluid flow between the primary ports.

    • A hydraulic valve includes a body with bore, a supply port coupled to a first chamber, and a return port connected to the bore and the control chamber. A brake port enables the wheel brake to be connected to the bore, while a brake actuator passage enables pressurized fluid to be introduced into the bore. An orifice is between the supply passage and a second chamber and a nozzle couples the second chamber to the control chamber. A servo valve has a flapper that controls flow of fluid through the nozzle. A valve spool in the bore has a first position at which the brake actuator passage is coupled to the brake passage, and a second position at which the return passage is coupled to the brake passage. The position of the valve spool is determined by pressures in the first chamber and the second chamber.

    • There is disclosed an anti-locking braking system for a wheel of a motor vehicle wherein there is provided an exhaust path for the fluid under pressure from a brake cylinder when a device senses the imminent locking of a wheel, such exhaust path includes an accumulator having a volume which increases against a compressional spring force at higher fluid pressure levels. For low pressures a valve, operated by the change in volume of the accumulator, remains open allowing the low pressure fluid to exhaust rapidly via an easy route. If the pressure is high, the valve is closed so that the high pressure fluid is compelled to exhaust via a further accumulator and a flow limiter.
