摘要： PURPOSE: To facilitate the use of flow of cooling fluid to limit the wear of a cutting edge on one hand and remove cut metal chips on the other hand by forming a through bore in an insert. CONSTITUTION: When a metal cutting tool is used in the work of parting a workpiece 17, cut metal chips 18 immediately after shearing are deflected upward by passing over a planar land face 11 and chip deflecting faces 13a, 13b. At the same time, a cooling fluid flow 19 passes through an insert bore 15, effectively fills a cavity formed by a recessed portion 12c, and swells to collide against the lower face of the center portion of the chip. The action of the cooling fluid flow 19 is essentially dual. On one hand, it effectively cools an insert 21 essentially in the region of a cutting edge 10, thereby reducing the wear of the cutting edge 10 and thus extending effective operating life. On the other hand, the flow 19 contributes to the effective upward deflection of the chip 18 from the cutting tool and the workpiece 17.
