    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-purity product in a good yield and a process for preparing a diaryl carbonate which achieves the reduction of the environmental pollution in a water treatment plant or the wastewater problem by maximum recycling of by-products formed in the polycarbonate production by the method of introducing minimum energy into the recycling so as to perform the conversion of hydrogen chloride into chlorine using the resulting resource conservation method.SOLUTION: A process comprises continuously preparing diaryl carbonates from phosgene and at least one monohydroxy compound (monophenol) in the presence of a catalyst, and also using this process for preparing polycarbonates. The hydrogen chloride formed in the reaction is converted by thermal oxidation into chlorine and this chlorine is recirculated for the preparation of phosgene. Particularly, the process comprises utilization of the hydrogen chloride formed for the process for preparing diphenyl carbonate (DPC process).
