    • It is an object to provide a retractor for a seat belt having a locking means and a shaft which can be twisted and exhibiting satisfactory safety. A retractor 1 for a seat belt according to the present invention having a locking means 100, which is capable of inhibiting rotation of a bobbin 3 around which a webbing 50 is wound in a direction in which the webbing 50 is drawn out in an emergency of a vehicle and a torsion bar 200A disposed between the bobbin 3 and the locking means 100 and arranged to be twisted to respond to a fact that a predetermined load is applied to the locking means 100 so as to rotate the bobbin 3 in the direction in which the webbing 50 is drawn out, the retractor 1 for a seat belt having a rotation restraining mechanism 300 for restraining rotation of the bobbin 3 when the bobbin 3 has been rotated by a predetermined angle in the direction in which the webbing 50 is drawn out to correspond to torsion of the torsion bar 200A.

The cover has a hammer pin insertion hole configured to receive the hammer pin. The hammer pin insertion hole of the cover has an inner diameter not greater than 1 mm to prevent leakage of high-temperature and high-pressure gas, which is produced as a result of explosive burning of said gas-generating chemical reagent, to the side of said hammer pin trigger device.

    • A retractor for use with a seat belt is capable of releasing a state of end lock easily without using a complicated structure of the lock operation means for operating the lock means in the case of an emergency of a vehicle. There are provided pawls (16, 13) capable of checking the rotation of the bobbin (3) in the webbing drawing direction when the pawls are engaged with inner teeth (2a, 2c) arranged on the side plates (1a, 1b) of the retractor base (1). When the ratchet wheel (18) is relatively rotated with respect to the bobbin (3) in the webbing winding direction, the pawls (16, 13) are engaged with the inner teeth (2a, 2c).     • A seat belt retractor according to the present invention comprises a torsion bar 2 which is connected integrally with a bobbin 3 on one end side thereof and is connected integrally with a locking base 5 on the other end side thereof, a pawl 16 for preventing the rotation of the locking base 5 in the webbing pull-out direction thereof, a ratchet wheel 18 for bringing the pawl 16 into engagement with an engaging internal teeth 25 in a vehicle emergency, a control plate 65 which, in accordance with the winding amount of a webbing 50, positions a lock lever 55 at a first position in which the lock lever 55 is engaged with the ratchet wheel 18 and the pawl 16 is engaged with the engaging internal teeth 25 or at a second position in which the lock lever 55 is not engaged with the ratchet wheel 18, and a lock member 80 which, when the lock lever 55 is positioned at the first position, can be engaged with the ratchet teeth 3b of the bobbin 3 to thereby prevent the rotation of the bobbin 3 in the webbing pull-out direction thereof. Accordingly, it is possible to provide an improved seat belt retractor which can switch an energy absorbing mechanism between its operation condition and its non-operation condition by use of a simple structure.

    • A retractor for a seat belt includes a winding force reducing mechanism for reducing a webbing winding force when an occupant wears the seat belt. The retractor includes a base; a winding shaft supported rotatably on base for winding a webbing; a first winding spring for energizing the winding shaft in a webbing winding direction; a second winding spring disposed on the winding shaft in parallel to said first winding spring; and gear unit interposed between the winding shaft and the second winding spring for applying the energizing force of the second winding spring to the winding shaft in the same direction as the energizing force of the first winding spring and for tightening the second winding spring in an elastic energy storing direction by means of the energizing force of the first winding spring. The gear unit is structured such that, when the seat belt is in use, the elastic energy of the second winding spring stored therein can act in a manner to cancel the energizing force of the first winding spring so that a reduced energizing force in the webbing winding direction can be applied to the winding shaft.

    • A safety mechanism is provided for a mechanical trigger device of a gas generator. The mechanical trigger device has an inertia body, which is displaceable upon application of a deceleration of at least a predetermined value, and a mechanical trigger for actuating the gas generator in response to a displacement of the inertia body. The safety mechanism also comprises a cover member for being mounted to cover the setting device. This cover member has mount-preventing member for interfering with the displaceable member located in the second position so that mounting of the cover member is prevented.
