    • The continuous digester system has an inlet defined therein for the feed of a chips suspension and an outlet for the output of a cooked suspension of pulp. The suspension of chips is fed in to the inlet through a line at the beginning of the cook, where the chips suspension has a volume of starting cooking fluid that establishes a fluid/wood ratio that is greater than 3.5. A final cooking fluid is present during the cook for the major part of the cook and is withdrawn through a withdrawal strainer only during the final 15 minutes of the cook. The final cooking fluid ensures a fluid/wood ratio that is greater than 3.5 in association with the withdrawal. The withdrawn final cooking fluid during the final 15 minutes of the cook consists of spent black liquor that maintains a residual alkali level that lies under 15 g/l.

    • The arrangement concerns an improved design for at least one of the cooling, dilution and washing at the bottom of a continuous digester for the production of cellulose pulp. By arranging at least one extra strainer section above the lowermost strainer section, with the addition of washing fluid or dilution fluid between the extra strainer section and the lowermost strainer section, more washing fluid can be added at the bottom of the digester without counteracting the flow of the column of chips. This provides space for the increase of production, for improvement of the flow of the column of chips, or for combinations of these effects while retaining good cooling, washing and dilution at the bottom of the digester.

    • The digester and method are for the continuous cooking of pulp. At least two withdrawal positions (11E, 11D) for cooking fluid are arranged at different heights in the digester (10). The cooking fluid in the first and second position is withdrawn after the chips have had a retention time that differs by at least 10 minutes. The differential pressure between the positions is determined and when this exceeds a pre-determined level, a connection (17E) opens between these positions, establishing a flow parallel to a flow of cooking fluid between these positions in the digester. Several withdrawal positions are preferably connected in a common shunt system (17A-17F), with valves (18A-18F), controlled by the differential pressure, that are located between adjacent positions.

    • The method is for the manufacture of cooked cellulose pulp in which the starting material, preferably chips, undergoes a successive increase in temperature towards cooking temperature. This is done while the chips are first treated in a pre-treatment zone in which the main part, greater than 50%, of fresh white liquor necessary for the cooking stage is added, after which this alkali-rich treatment fluid is withdrawn and replaced to a major extent by black liquor. The alkali-rich treatment fluid that has been withdrawn after the pre-treatment stage is then added to the cooking stage, which is why the addition of fresh white liquor to the cooking stage is reduced to an equivalent amount. Maximal yield-enhancing effect is obtained using poly-sulphide-rich white liquor during the pre-treatment at a temperature in the interval 60±40° C. and retention time in the interval 2-60 minutes, preferably 2-10 minutes.

    • The invention relates to a method for supplying washing liquid to a digester (1) for cellulose pulp and a subsequent diffuser washing device (2a, 2b). A high, disturbance-free production capacity can be obtained by using a common feed pump (P1) which, via a main feed line (10), supplies both the diffuser washing device and the digester with washing liquid in parallel. The first pump (P1) establishes a pressure on the washing liquid which is in the interval 2–6 bar, and is preferably 4 bar, while the second pressure level, which is established by the diffuser pump device (P2a, P2b), is in the interval 6–12 bar, but is at least 2 bar higher than the first pressure level, and the third pressure level, which is established by the digester pump (P3), is in the interval 12–25 bar The system becomes self-regulating in the event of any operational disturbances in the flow of washing liquid and, if the pumps are appropriate, a countercurrent flow of washing liquid through the system is essentially maintained.

    • A method in connection with the pretreatment of comminuted fibrous material intended for chemical cellulose pulp production. The fibrous material is fed through a low pressure system that has a gas phase part followed by a liquid phase part. The liquid phase part includes a low pressure circulation where a circulating liquid is withdrawn from the fibrous material and recirculated back to the fibrous material in an upstream position. The fibrous material is sluiced into a high pressure system that has a liquid phase transfer part operatively connected to a digester. A hot process liquid and/or the circulating liquid are evaporatively cooled by being allowed to flash within the low pressure system.

    • The system and method reduce the liquid/wood ratio at the top of a vapor phase digester in a continuous digester plant. Chips that are to be cooked in the vapor phase digester are fed as a mixture of chips and liquid at a liquid/wood ratio that exceeds 8:1 in a transfer line to an inverted top separator arranged at the top of the vapor phase digester. The top separator feeds the chips upwardly. More than 50% of the liquid content of the mixture of chips and liquid is withdrawn in the top separator and the remaining liquid is fed out from the top separator to the top of the vapor phase digester. A pile of chips and a liquid volume are established at the top, wherein the pile of chips is disposed above the liquid surface of the liquid volume.
