    • A squeeze roller retraction assembly for use with electrophotographic copying machines of the type in which a photosensitive drum is removable from the machine, for inspection or other purposes, through an opening formed in a sidewall which opening is normally covered by a coverplate. A squeeze roller which normally engages with the peripheral drum surface has its engagement therewith automatically released once the coverplate has been dismounted from the sidewall, and also is returned to its operative position as the coverplate is remounted, to thereby prevent damage of the drum as well as a wrong usage of the machine which may be caused by forgetting to replace the squeeze roller to the operative position.

    • A wet type image forming apparatus which comprises: at least one rotary photoconductor drum having a surface on which an electrostatic latent image is formed; a development unit for forming a visual image from the latent image by supplying the photoconductor with a liquid developer; a transferring portion under the photoconductor drum where the developed visual image is transferred to a paper; a cleaning unit for removing the liquid developer which remains on the surface of the photoconductor after the visual image is transferred to the paper. The apparatus further comprises a drip prevention plate which is arranged to come in contact with the photoconductor surface to prevent the liquid developer from dripping through the photoconductor surface. The developer is prevented from dripping onto the transferring portion so that the paper is not stained by the dripped liquid developer.

    • A developing unit for use with an electrophotographic copying apparatus of the type comprising a developing electrode and at least one corona discharger includes a conductive member arranged within a shield casing of the discharger for obtaining a voltage to be applied to the developing electrode as a bias voltage thereto. In the case where an a.c. discharger for charge elimination is being used in addition to the primary discharger, conductive members are incorporated with respective dischargers and the outputs from the conductive members are superimposed on each other and applied to the developing electrode. In this instance, the output of the conductive member associated with the a.c. discharger is continuously applied to the developing electrode after the de-energization of the primary discharger, i.e., the completion of developing an electrostatic latent image to thereby prevent the deposition of toner on the developing electrode.

    • Writing boards such as electric blackboards which can erase all information written thereon without wiping the board by hand. On a front surface of an endless recording medium provided in the electric black board letters, characters, etc. are written with a writing tool. The writing tool uses an ink which is easily erasable with a cleaning liquid stored in a container. At the back surface of the recording medium, there is provided a cleaning instrument which faces the back surface of the recording medium. When all the writing is to be erased, an erasing switch is pushed. A pump is operated to move the recording medium, relative to the cleaning instrument. Thus, the cleaning liquid stored in the container circulates through tubes and the cleaning instrument and squeezes the cleaning liquid through an opening of the cleaning instrument to the recording medium.

    • A book type document is placed on a glass platen face down and scanned by a reciprocating optical system one or more times to produce one or more copies respectively. A retractable conveyor comprising an endless belt is moved onto the platen to automatically feed a sheet document inserted thereinto onto the platen for scanning. Where only one copy of a sheet document is required, the optical system is maintained stationary and the sheet document is fed by the conveyor over the platen at the proper speed, thus enabling rapid copying of a large number of sheet documents. The magnification is variable through adjustment of the positions of the elements of the optical system when held stationary and the speed of movement of the document by the conveyor. The conveyor feeds a sheet document onto the platen at high speed and the optical system is reciprocated to scan the document a plurality of times where a plurality of copies of the document are required.
