    • A receiver and a method for a receiver is disclosed. The receiver comprises a signal processing path for receiving a first signal modulated by a first modulation method and having a first bandwidth and a second signal modulated by a second modulation method and having a second bandwidth. A common gain control function is provided for processing said first and second signals. A common DC offset cancellation is also provided for said first and second signals. In a preferred embodiment the gain control and the DC offset cancellation a provided by a single circuit.

    • Disclosed is an RF transmitter circuit (10), as well as a method for operating the circuit. The RF transmitter circuit includes a VGA (20), that includes circuitry for generating a feedback signal, and a temperature compensation block (18) having an input coupled to a gain control signal and an output coupled to an input of the VGA for providing to the VGA a compensated gain control signal. The temperature compensation block further includes a bias input that receives the VGA feedback signal. The VGA feedback signal operates to modify the gain control signal to reduce an amount of variability in a VGA gain slope over a range of VGA output power.

    • An arrangement for saving energy in a radio device transmitter and a radio device. The steady currents of the transmitter amplifiers are made dependent on the transmitting power for reducing the losses of the amplifiers. The VGA (400) comprises at least one main differential pair (Q41–Q42; Q43–Q44) for controlling the gain and a bias differential pair (Q47–Q48) for controlling said steady currents. These pairs are steered by the one and the same voltage (ΔV), in which case the output current (Ib1; Ib2) of the bias differential pair changes in the same way as the output current (io1; io2) of the main differential pair when the gain is readjusted. The output current of the bias differential pair is used as a bias current of the transmitter amplifiers, i.e. as a current that determines the steady currents of the amplifiers. Because the values of the steady currents of the amplifiers track accurately the value of the gain, when this is changed, the steady currents are always so low as the transmitting power necessarily requires, at a given time, wherein the amount of needless losses, from the transmitting operation's point of view, is small. Said differential pairs are placed on one and the same substrate, in order to the control to function accurately in a wide dynamic range.

    • The disclosed apparatus and corresponding method uses amplifiers and a differential combiner to control the output power of a digital-to-analog upconverter and to isolate In-phase and Quadrature branches of the upconverter. First and second upconverters convert In-phase and Quadrature portions of a baseband digital value to respective first/second In-phase (Ip/In) and first/second Quadrature (Qp/Qn) analog components at RF. First and second amplifiers respectively amplify Ip, In and Qp, Qn to respectively generate amplified Ip, In and Qp, Qn signals. The first and second amplifiers each operate at a 50% duty cycle and in an interleaved fashion such that only one amplifier is active to generate an output at any time, and such that the amplified signals are output in an interleaved fashion. A differential combiner combines the amplified signals to generate the RF analog signal representative of the baseband digital value.

    • A digital-to-analog upconverter directly converts a baseband digital value comprising a plurality of bits to an RF analog signal to combine digital-to-analog operations with frequency upconversion operations. One exemplary digital-to-analog upconverter comprises a plurality of conversion units, one for each of the plurality of bits in the baseband digital value, and an output node coupled to each of the conversion units. Each conversion unit generates a weighted analog signal at a low frequency or at a radio frequency responsive to the corresponding input bit and an oscillator signal at RF. The weighting factor of each conversion unit corresponds to a relative weighting of the corresponding bit. The output node combines the weighted analog signals to generate a combined RF analog signal representative of the baseband digital value.
