    • Methods and arrangements for improving the selection of neighbor cells, on which to perform measurements in different situations. The method in a first node involves obtaining (702, 802, 704, 804) information identifying a first and a second set of neighboring cells for a respective first and second measurement category. A third set of neighboring cells is then determined (706, 812) based on at least parts of the obtained information related to the first and second set. Measurements are then performed (708, 814) in a third measurement category on at least part of the cells in the third set of neighboring cells. The methods and arrangements enable combination of information on neighbor cells, obtained in different ways for different measurement categories into a combined set of neighbor cells, which is more suitable for measurements in a certain measurement category than a set of cells previously obtained for performing measurements in said measurement category.

    • A method of operating a terminal of a wireless communication network is disclosed. The method comprises detecting a cell identity for a cell associated with a wireless network node of the wireless communication system, detecting a current downlink transmission mode of the wireless network node as the first or second downlink transmission mode, and adapting a further operation of the terminal based on the detected current downlink transmission mode.     • Methods and devices are provided whereby scrambling codes can be set in an improved way. In accordance with one embodiment a method is provided in a User Equipment for generating a second scrambling code or a second scrambling code group. The UE is configured for multi carrier operation receiving downlink transmission from a Universal Mobile Telecommunications System Terrestrial Radio Access Network on a set of at least two downlink carriers including an anchor carrier and at least a first secondary carrier. The method comprises determining a first scrambling code or a first scrambling code group associated with a first cell on the anchor carrier; and deriving a second scrambling code or a second scrambling code group associated with a second cell on said first secondary carrier using a predefined rule defining the relation between the second scrambling code or second scrambling code group and the first scrambling code or scrambling code group. Hereby interference suppression / cancellation processing is enabled in a receiver of a UE on secondary cells in multi-carrier scenarios that do not transmit the SCH, while minimizing the need for overhead in terms of signaling of the scrambling codes for neighbouring cells in a UTRAN system. Methods and devices for E-UTRAN are also described.

    • In a User Equipment, frequency search is performed using the physical location (e.g. GPS position) and using information about the allocation of frequency bands and the radio access technologies used in these bands in different regions or countries. Hereby, frequency searching can be reduced to those bands and to the corresponding radio access technologies which are used in a current physical location. In order to ensure that UE is configured with the latest and most relevant regional frequency information, regional frequency information is transmitted to the UE over the air interface. In addition, information related to user's travel itinerary and user's travel history can be taken into account. By only frequency searching relevant frequency bands for the radio access technologies used in these bands battery power consumption can be reduced and frequency search speed can be improved.

    • In one aspect, the invention provides a multi-modal user equipment (UE) configuration method. In some embodiments, the method includes: configuring the UE so that it supports a plurality of radio access technologies (RATs), wherein each of the plurality of RATs is associated with a predetermined maximum number of layers that the UE may be instructed by a network node to monitor simultaneously; configuring the UE so that it is operable to transmit to the network node RAT capability information identifying the plurality of RATs supported by the UE; and configuring the UE to monitor simultaneously not more than X layers associated with one of the plurality of RATs, wherein X is less than the predetermined maximum number of layers associated with the RAT.
