    • A level transmitter for use in a process application measures height of a product in a tank. The level transmitter includes a microwave antenna directed into the tank. A low power microwave source sends a microwave signal through the microwave antenna. A low power microwave receiver receives a reflected microwave signal. Measurement circuitry coupled to the source and receiver initiates transmitting of the microwave signal and determines product height based upon the received, reflected signal. Output circuitry coupled to a two-wire process control loop transmits information related to product height over the loop. Power supply circuitry in the level transmitter coupled to the two-wire process control loop receives power from the loop which powers the level transmitter including the microwave source and the microwave receiver.

    • An existing analog two-wire transmitter has a sensor module, an analog excitation circuit, and an analog detector circuit which provides an output representative of a sensed process variable, such as pressure, to a two-wire current loop. The analog detection circuit is removed and replaced with apparatus including a digital converter that digitally calculates the transmitter's output. The output is improved by calculating correction for linearity. The analog excitation circuit may also be replaced with a replacement excitation circuit. The replacement excitation circuit and the digital converter can be energized in series to control energization current. A charge pump can be coupled to the loop to balance the current in the series circuit. The digital converter can also provide electrical span and zero adjustments.

    • A facsimile transceiver comprising a document/copy receiving drum, a motor for rotation of the drum about the drum axis and a read/write head mounted for linear movement in a direction parallel with the drum axis. When the transceiver is operating in the receive mode, the copy medium having adhesive along at least one edge circumscribes the drum in a closed loop so as to eliminate the necessity for transmitter-receiver angular synchronizing signals which would otherwise be required for locating the copy margin adjacent the edge of the copy paper. After completion of a transmission, the copy medium is severed along a line so as to provide an appropriate margin for the copied information content. In one embodiment of the invention, the closed loop is formed from a single sheet having adhesive along one edge for purposes of forming a bond between opposite edges of the sheet when the sheet is applied to the drum. The read/write head includes a cutting wheel which is adapted to sever the sheet along the appropriate line when the head is moved in a cutting stroke along the length of the drum with the cutter wheel in contact with the sheet. In another embodiment, the copy paper includes tear strings displaced along its back surface running parallel to the axis of the drum and of sufficient number so that a tear string for shearing the copy paper loop is likely to be near the margin of the copy.

    • Wheelchairs in various embodiments include a variable-position drive system that can automatically move the drive wheels fore and aft through an approximately 41 cm range. Such a system provides all the benefits of front-, mid-, and rear-wheel drive configurations in a single wheelchair, for example, to adjust the drive wheels toward the rear for stability and speed outdoors and toward the center for maneuverability indoors. The performance-optimal placement of drive wheels often depends on the physical environment (e.g., terrain), on the combined center of mass of the wheelchair and user, and on the user's cognitive functioning, trunk stability, and driving skills. One disclosed embodiment includes a pair of mid-position drive wheels that can automatically be repositioned forward or backward to accommodate changes in terrain and center of mass, which will improve the power wheelchair's stability and maneuverability and, consequently, safety and ease of use in a wider range of scenarios.
