    • A system, method and device for providing secondary information to a communication device are disclosed. The method may include the steps of (1) receiving at least one user preference; (2) engaging in a primary communication with a first data source via a first communication channel; (3) scanning the primary communication for a match with the user preference; (4) requesting a data object corresponding to the matched user preference from a server via a second communication channel; and (5) receiving the requested data object. The server may be a phonepage server. According to another embodiment, the system includes a server, which may comprise a phonepage server, and a communication device configured to engage in a primary communication via a first communication channel. The communication device may include a software object that is configured to store at least one user preference, scan the primary communication for a match with the user preference, initiate a triggering event; and requests a data object corresponding to the matched user preference from the server via a second communication channel. The communication device may include a communication unit for communicating with a data source via a first communication channel and a server via a second communication channel; a preference application that receives at least one user preference; a scanning application that scans the primary communication for a match with the user preference and initiates a triggering event in response to a match; and a request application that requests a data object in response to the match via the second communication channel.

    • Error control is provided in an ad hoc network having an asynchronous communication mode and a synchronous communication mode. A packet including a header and a payload is received. The header includes a header error check (HEC) computed based on the header. An error indicator is calculated based on the received header. The received payload is forwarded if the calculated error indicator indicates an error free header. The header, only in the synchronous communication mode, is modified based on an error correction table when the calculated error indicator corresponds to a value in the error correction table and the received payload is forwarded. A received packet error is detected in the synchronous communication mode when the calculated error indicator indicates an error in the header and the calculated error indicator does not correspond to a value in the error correction table. A received packet error is detected in the asynchronous communication mode when the calculated error indicates an error in the header.

    • A system and method of bundling full or partial decoding and/or post-processing mechanisms (144) together with media content (142) in the form of an electronic file (140) is disclosed. The combined file (140) may be transmitted to another device that is able to execute the decoding and/or post-processing such that the receiving device can render the media content in an appropriate manner (e.g., playback of audio, display a picture, etc.) with sufficient fidelity. Aspects of the present invention extend the use of metadata associated with the a multimedia content to incorporate a specification for how the multimedia file should be decoded or partially decoded from a compressed state (e.g., MP3, JPEG, WAV, etc.) and post-processed into a state than can be rendered by a device. In one embodiment, the specification is in the form of a script comprising an ordered list of functions or primitives that are executed by the receiving device to transform the associated multimedia file into the desired content to be rendered. In another embodiment, the decoding instructions are provided as an element of an extensible markup language (XML) file. The XML file may accompany the multimedia file or the multimedia file may be another element of the XML file.
