    • The invention relates to a method for determining the transmission quality in a transmission system. The aim of the invention is to allow for an as fast a measurement as possible of the bit error rate in a transmission system, especially a mobile radio system. To this end, a mobile station (2) that interlinks data received by a base station (1) or a test device via a downlink channel (DL) at least partially in such a manner that the resulting linkage or combination result is transmitted back to the base station (1) via an uplink channel (UL). The base station (1) is thus enabled to precisely and quickly measure the bit error rate of data transmission via the downlink channel (DL) and the uplink channel (UL) even at unsymmetrical transmission rates.

    • The invention relates to a terminal unit for digital mobile radiotelephone communication, comprising a receiving device (1) for receiving digital data packets, and a decision device (2). Before the complete information unit has been received, said information unit consisting of one or several data packets, the decision device (2) decides whether or not the information unit is important. According to the invention a set of permissible parameter pairs with the parameters being a number of code channels and an associated spreading factor is determined according to at least one first selection criterion. Then a parameter pair from the set of permissible parameter pairs for the CDMA transmission is selected according to at least one second selection criterion. In this selection process, the spreading factor is used as a second selection criterion with a higher value being preferred over a lower value if both spreading factors are below or equal to a threshold spreading factor value. The invention accounts for the fact that in a certain regime low spreading factors involve a prohibitively high processing load and lead to increases inter symbol interference.
