    • Methods and apparatus for data synchronization in communication systems using repetitive preamble patterns. In one embodiment, a method includes receiving a signal, where the received signal includes a data unit. The data unit includes a preamble symbol, and the preamble symbol has a start time and includes Q portions, each having the same pattern. The method further includes determining multiple possible values of a frame timing (FT). The method further includes determining multiple correlation functions including at least one correlation function corresponding to each of the multiple possible values of the FT, such that a given correlation function corresponding to a given possible value of the FT represents a correlation between data in two non-adjacent portions of the Q portions associated with the given FT. The method further includes selecting one of the multiple possible values of the FT based at least in part on the multiple determined correlation functions.

    • A method of mitigating interference from a transmitter of a communication device at a receiver of the same communication device, where the communication device operates according to at least a first and a second communication protocol, includes generating, in the transmitter, a transmit signal conforming to the second communication protocol, generating an interference estimate signal from the transmit signal using an adaptive filter, and receiving a receive signal at the receiver. The receive signal includes a desired component conforming to the first communication protocol and an interference component corresponding to the transmit signal. The method also includes processing the receive signal using the interference estimate signal to remove at least a portion of the interference component from the receive signal.

    • Systems, apparatuses, and techniques relating to wireless local area network devices are described. A described technique includes transmitting a sounding packet to a wireless communication device(s) to determine characteristics of spatial wireless channels, the sounding packet being based on a spatial mapping matrix; receiving a feedback packet(s) from the device(s), the feedback packet(s) being indicative of one or more feedback matrices, the one or more feedback matrices being derived from wireless channel estimations that are based on received versions of the sounding packet; generating spatially steered data packets based on multiple data streams and one or more steering matrices, which are based on the spatial mapping matrix and the one or more feedback matrices; and transmitting a frame that includes the spatially steered data packets to the device(s). The spatially steered data packets can concurrently provide the streams respectively within the frame to the device(s) via different spatial wireless channels.

    • Systems and methods are provided for employing a HARQ retransmission scheme in a time invariant MIMO transmission channel with two inputs. During odd-numbered transmission attempts of information bearing signal s, the original signal s is sent. During even-numbered transmission attempts, a signal {hacek over (s)} that is different from but represents the same information as s is sent. By alternating between two different signals during retransmission, diversity gain is introduced. Information bearing signals s and {hacek over (s)} may also be subjected to precoding before transmission. The result of precoding is a channel that effectively changes with time. A receiver that operates using this retransmission scheme may use the information from some or all of the transmission attempts. The receiver may include a pre-processor for space-time codes that effectively converts {hacek over (s)} into an s representation.
