    • PURPOSE:To allow coating with the accurate position control at the inner peripheral end of a light absorption layer and to execute stable reading out of information by executing the spin coating in the environment where the gaseous pressure on the central side of a substrate is higher than the atm. pressure on the outer peripheral side of the substrate. CONSTITUTION:This optical recording medium has the light absorption layer formed by spin coating on the substrate. The environment where the gaseous pressure on the central side of the substrate is higher than on the outer peripheral end side of the substrate is formed by circumferentially discharging gaseous nitrogen of a specified flow rate from a gaseous nitrogen outflow port 5 in this system. The flowing or splashing of a coating liquid by a difference in the atm. pressure does not arise on the inner peripheral side of the substrate and, therefore, the control accuracy in the position at the inner peripheral end is improved and the degradation in the recording capacity is obviated. The stable reading out of the information is thus executed.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain a sufficient track error signal by forming a light absorbing layer from a dye membrane formed by a vapor deposition method and making the max. absorption wavelength shorter than the wavelength of laser beam for recording and regeneration. CONSTITUTION:A light absorbing layer 2, a reflecting layer 3 and a protective layer 4 are successively laminated to a substrate 1. Since the light absorbing layer 2 is provided by a vapor deposition method, even when a thick film is formed, said film does not fill the grooves of the substrate like a film provided by a spin coating method. Therefore, a track error signal is ensured. Since the max. absorption wavelength of a dye membrane is shifted from the wavelength of laser beam for recording and regeneration, the dye membrane has proper transmissivity and can obtain high reflecivity by multiple reflection interference effect. The material of the light absorbing layer is composed of a dye susceptible to vapor deposition and pref. formed into a vapor deposition film whose max. absorption wavelength is shifted from the wavelength of laser beam on a short wavelength side. Further, absorption in the wavelength region of laser beam is required to a certain extent.

    • PURPOSE:To release the deterioration of sensitivity by providing a recording layer, org. dye or pigment layer, and protective layer and allowing the lowest temp. among the melting point, sublimation point, or/and thermal decomposition temp. of the org. dye or pigment to be higher by >=50 deg.C than the crystallization temp. of the recording layer. CONSTITUTION:An org. dye layer 3 is provided between the phase-change recording layer 2 and protective layer 4 on a substrate 1 and the org. dye absorbs the light of such wavelength used for recording and reproducing. The rays of light partly transmitted through the layer 2 which are too much for absorption are absorbed by the org. dye or pigment and converted into heat, which improves recording sensitivity. By constituting the light-absorbing layer with single org. dye or pigment, the efficiency of heat generation is high and can be easily formed. Recording can be performed by irradiating the amorphous film with the light to crystallize the film. Therefore, it is required that the lowest temp. among the melting point, sublimation point, or/and thermal decomposition temp. of the org. dye or pigment is higher by >=50 deg.C than the crystallization point of the recording layer 2. If the lowest temp. among these is lower than this spec, the deformation or the modification of the org. dye or pigment layer is generated on recording to deteriorate C/N.

    • PURPOSE:To improve the recording and erasing sensitivity and productivity of the medium formed with a recording layer and protective layer on a transparent substrate by forming the protective layer of the hydrolyzed condensate of a specific metal org. compd. and fine particles of carbon black. CONSTITUTION:The recording layer 2 which is changed in phase by a light beam and the protective layer 3 are provided on the transparent substrate 1 to form the recording medium. The layer 3 is formed of the hydrolyzed condensate of the metal org. compd. expressed by formula I or formula II (M is Al, Si, Ti, Zr, In, Sn and R1 to R4 and R5 to R7 are 1 to 18C alkyl group or aryl group) and the fine particles of the carbon black dispersed therein. The light transmitted through the layer 2 is, therefore, absorbed and converted to heat by the carbon black. The recording and erasing sensitivity is improved in this way and the protective layer is highly resistant to heat. In addition, this recording medium is formed by a coating method and, therefore, the productivity is improved.
