    • The advance of a mining front in longwall mining is effected by a process in which sensors measure the displacement of displacement cylinders coupling the linked prop elements to the linked conveyor elements with their respective cutters. A computer generates a baseline represented by the actual prop line as a starting point and the conveyor elements and cutters are then advanced all along the mining front via the displacement cylinders. The sensors input the respective displacements into the computer so that an actual conveyor line is determined in the computer and serves as the baseline for after-drawing of the prop elements via the cylinders. The new prop line calculated by the computer then forms the baseline for further advance and the advance can be controlled to ultimately align the conveyor elements along the conveyor line corresponding to a setpoint line defined by the computer and parallel to the original baseline.

    • A roof support structure for excavations comprises a supporting sill beam which is adapted to be anchored in a position below the roof in the shaft or excavation being worked. The sill beam includes a front curved working face forming a closed cover plate and a movable front structure is pivoted on the sill beam at the center of curvature of the cover plate and it has a closed front end plate which is telescopic over the cover plate during pivotal movement. A cave-in shield is pivotaly connected to the outer end of the front structure adjacent the front plate and its opposite end is directed toward the roof and a roof cap structure is pivotally mounted on this end and is positioned against the roof by adjustable hydraulic props which engage against the cave in shield and pivot it to a desired position.

    • A timbering device connected to a longwall conveyor disposed toward the mining face of an excavation for progressively timbering frames from the gobbing side toward the mining face side comprises first and second skids which are adapted to be shifted over the floor. The guide piece is pivoted to one of the skids adjacent the gobbing side thereof and it has a guide slot extending toward the mining face. A push rod has one end connected to the longwall conveyor and an opposite end having a slide portion which is slidable in the guide piece guide slot. A thrust drive piston has a gobbing side end pivotally connected to the slide piece portion of the push rods and has an opposite mounting face end which is pivotally connected to a bracket carried under one of said skids. The sliding plane control device is carried by the pusher rod.

    • A canopy and shield structure for supporting a shield adjacent a working face in a seam-like mine deposit, comprises a floor skid which is connected through an extensible and contractable prop at the working face end to the working face end of a canopy adapted to be positioned in parallel relation to the roof strata. The working space is covered at the waste removal end by a shield which includes a lower two-arm lever portion which is pivotally mounted on the skid and an upper portion which is pivotally connected to the longer arm of the two-arm lever adjacent the upper end thereof and is also pivotally connected to the canopy. The two-arm lever is driven by a hydraulic drive motor and a parallel linkage is connected between the upper shield part and the canopy in order to provide a guidance of the canopy in a direction substantially perpendicular to the strata. The upper part of the shield also includes an opening for the passage of a blast pipe and the canopy advantageously includes a guideway for supporting the blast pipe for shifting movement toward and away from the working face.
