    • A surgical device is disclosed which includes a handle assembly, an elongated member and a disposable loading unit. The handle assembly includes a mode selection mechanism configured to alternate the surgical device between a first grasping mode of operation and a second clamping mode of operation. The handle assembly includes a rotation control member and an articulation lever. The rotation control member is configured to facilitate rotation of the elongated member with respect to the handle assembly. The articulation lever is configured to facilitate articulation of the tool assembly about an axis substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of elongated member. In one embodiment, the tool assembly includes a cartridge assembly having a plurality of staples and an anvil assembly configured to clamp and staple tissue in the second clamping mode of operation of the device.

    • The present disclosure provides for a loading unit for use with and/or supportable on a distal end of a surgical stapling apparatus. The loading unit includes a housing portion including a connecting feature, preferably in the form of a pair of axially oriented and diametrically opposed slots formed therein, and a drive assembly slidably supported within the housing portion of the loading unit, the drive assembly including a pair of axially spaced apart radially inwardly extending fingers, wherein when the distal end of a control rod of a surgical stapling apparatus is axially advanced in the direction of and engages the resilient fingers, the distal end of the control rod biases the resilient fingers radially outward into the slots of the housing portion.

    • A loading unit is provided for use with a surgical vascular suturing instrument. The loading unit is dimensioned and configured to securely retain a surgical needle and an associated length of suture in a position to be received by a jaw of the vascular suturing instrument. The loading unit generally includes one or more needle supply stations each of which include needle support structure and jaw receiving structure. The needle supporting structure releasably secures a surgical needle to the loading unit and the jaw receiving structure is dimensioned and configured to guide the jaw of a vascular suturing instrument about an end of the surgical needle. The needle supply station also includes a shield to protect the pointed end of the surgical needle during storage and transportation. The loading unit also includes suture retaining structure for holding the length of suture material attached to the surgical needle.

    • A system for movably positioning a first member relative to a second member. The system has a hole in the first member and a coiled spring/plunger member positioned in the hole. The coiled member has a section that extends out of the hole that does not possess significant spring properties and thus can act as a plunger. The plunger section of the coiled member can be moved in and out of an aperture to the hole without risk of damage. Thus, the second member can be moved relative to the first member by compressing the coiled member or moving away from the coiled member and, the coiled member can position the second member relative to the first member while at rest.
