摘要： PURPOSE:To prevent the drop of power supply voltage of a control member to lower the possibility of the generation of discrepancy such as fluctuation in the number of rotations of motor due to malfunction by inhibitting start of engine in such a case of controlling supply of power to the motor while power generation request is generated. CONSTITUTION:A vehicle controller 20 judges whether power generation is requested or not to an engine-driven power generator consisting of an engine 22 and a power generator 24. When it is judged that power generation request is issued, the vehicle controller 20 continuously judges whether the vehicle is in the running condition or not. This judgement is conducted, for example, by the number of rotations of motor which is detected by a sensor 34 for sensing the number of rotations. When the vehicle is judged not to be in the runnind condition, the vehicle controller 20 turns ON a starter 36 by energizing a starter coil 40. That is, the voltage drop of an auxiliary battery 44 resulting from power supply to the starter 36 does not cause any malfunction of the vehicle controller 20 and it is unnecessary to provide a power supply only for the starter 36.

Thus, the efficiency and exhaust gas amount of the engine 24 can be set to predetermined values, and temperature rises of the engine 24 and the components of the engine 24, such as a catalytic converter 42 can be effectively executed. Thus, time of warm-up of the engine 24 is shortened, and a total exhaust amount of harmful substances can be decreased.

SOLUTION: A motive power output device is equipped with a crank shaft 156 of an engine 150 at its planetary carrier, a motor MG1 at its sun gear, and a planetary gear 120 coupled with a motor MG2 at its ring gear. A controller 180 converts the motive power outputted from an engine 150 into torque and output it to a motive power transmitting gear 111 coupled mechanically with the ring gear, by driving a motor MG2 by the power regenerated by the motor MG1 and driving the motor MG1 by the power regenerated by the motor MG2, based on the gear ratio of the sun gear to the ring gear of the planetary gear MG1. The engine 150 can be made the most efficient point possible, because it can be driven at any operation point so long as it can output energy to be outputted to the side of the ring gear. As a result, the motive power can be outputted efficiently.

SOLUTION: A power output device 20 is provided with an engine 50, a clutch motor 30, an assist motor 4, and a controller 80. The motors 30 and 40 convert the energy expressed by the product of the number of revolutions and torque of a crank shaft 56 into the energy expressed by the product of the number of revolutions and the torque of a driving shaft 22 and transmits the energy to the drive shaft 22 under the control of the controller 80. Since the engine 50 can be operated freely at any operating point when the output energy is the same, the energy efficiency of the power output device can be improved further as a whole by finding in advance the operating point at which the energy efficiency becomes the highest to each output energy and controlling the fuel injection and opening of the throttle valve of the device and the motors 30 and 40 so that the device can be operated at the operating point.

When the SOC of battery is deviated initially from the target range (116), the battery is forcibly charged or discharged to confine the SOC within the target range (112, 118).

CONSTITUTION: A control target of generator output, being set based on the smoothed value of output from a motor 10 during an immediately preceding control period, is compared with a maximum output from a generator 24. When the control target is higher, it is lowered below the maximum generator output and a value corresponding to the discharged output of a battery 16 is accumulated to a variable for managing the balance of charge/discharge. Power discharged from the battery 16 during an immediately preceding control period is then compensated based on the variable for managing the balance of charge/discharge at a control period which caused to set a control target lower than the maximum generator output based on the smoothed value of output from the motor 10. With such arrangement, charge/discharge of the battery 16 can be balanced well in the early stage even if the rating of the generator 24 or the battery 16 is insufficient for the required acceleration performance thus preventing the battery 16 voltage or the motor 10 output from lowering.

Furthermore, when an engine speed deviates from a target value, a torque corresponding to the deviation is added or absorbed by the motor generator 14 and a control is made so that the engine speed quickly converges to the target value.
