    • PURPOSE: To prevent the battery voltage or the motor output from lowering by compensating for the power being discharged from a battery during an immediately preceding period at a specified control period based on variables for managing the balance of charge/discharge, thereby balancing the charge/discharge of the battery. CONSTITUTION: A control target of generator output, being set based on the smoothed value of output from a motor 10 during an immediately preceding control period, is compared with a maximum output from a generator 24. When the control target is higher, it is lowered below the maximum generator output and a value corresponding to the discharged output of a battery 16 is accumulated to a variable for managing the balance of charge/discharge. Power discharged from the battery 16 during an immediately preceding control period is then compensated based on the variable for managing the balance of charge/discharge at a control period which caused to set a control target lower than the maximum generator output based on the smoothed value of output from the motor 10. With such arrangement, charge/discharge of the battery 16 can be balanced well in the early stage even if the rating of the generator 24 or the battery 16 is insufficient for the required acceleration performance thus preventing the battery 16 voltage or the motor 10 output from lowering.
