摘要： Exemplary embodiments of this invention provide a reduction in signaling overhead by allocating radio resources to subscriber stations (SSs) based on a group of connection identifiers (CIDs), where the group corresponds to a plurality of connections. The use of these exemplary embodiments can be particularly beneficial for certain applications, such as voice over internet protocol (VoIP) applications, by removing unnecessary signaling overhead. In one exemplary embodiment of the invention, a method includes: receiving signaling that assigns a subscriber station to a particular group of subscriber stations or that removes an already assigned subscriber station from the particular group of subscriber stations; and transmitting an acknowledgment that confirms receipt of the signaling.

One method includes receiving a first message from a first relay station requesting a temporary suspension of communication between the first relay station and one or more user equipment. In response to receiving the first message, a second message is transmitted to the one or more user equipment. The second message includes instructions to the user equipment to temporarily suspend communication with the first relay station at a specific time. A third message is transmitted to the first relay station. A scanning operation is performed at the specified time in response to receiving the third message. A second method for use in multi-hop relay networks is also described. The second method includes transmitting a neighbor information message. The neighbor information message includes a relay zone offset indicating the start of a station in a frame structure. Several apparatus are also described.

Radio resource set re-assignment, managed mode relay operations (where the base station schedules traffic among relays using the same radio resource set), and power control of relays and associated mobile stations are also described.
