    • PURPOSE:To enable reduction of the generation of intake noise without causing any drop in engine output, by a method wherein an amount of intake air throttled by a valve body situated in the middle of in intake passage is controlled so that intake pressure on the low load side of an engine is regulated to a constant pressure value lower than that on the high load side. CONSTITUTION:With an engine 1 started, a negative pressure is stored in a vacuum tank 80 with the aid of a vacuum pump, and introduction of the negative pressure to the negative pressure chamber 4 of a vacuum motor 44 causes gradual closing of a valve body 3 in an intake passage 2. Then, a negative pressure downstream from the valve body 3 is increased, and introduction of the negative pressure to the negative pressure chamber 73 of a pressure control valve 70 through a communicating pipe 90 causes down movement of a valve body 76 and forces the opening end 62 of a passage 60 to be opened to an atmospheric pressure chamber 74. This causes dilution of a negative pressure in the negative pressure chamber 44 by means of the open air, and forces the valve body 3 to act in the opening direction. In this case, since a switching valve 100 is opened during low load running of an engine, a negative pressure introduced in the negative pressure chamber 73 is diluted by means of the open air, and the opening of the valve body 3 is decreased.
