    • An inner rotor (5) provided with a plurality of magnetic poles is disposed on an inner side of a ring-shaped stator (3) of a motor/generator (1). The outer rotor (7) provided with a number of magnetic poles is disposed on an outer side of the stator (3). The number of magnetic poles of the outer rotor (7) differs from the number of magnetic poles of the inner rotor (5). The stator (3) is provided with coils (16) simultaneously generating a magnetic field synchronized with the rotation of the inner rotor (5) and a magnetic field synchronized with the rotation of the outer rotor (7). The stator (3) is provided with a plurality of cores (3A) partitioned on a circumferential periphery and composed of a magnetic material to allow coils (16) to be wound thereon. Connectors (19) are provided connecting a part of one core (3A) to a part of an adjacent core (3A). One magnetic resistance is created on an inner peripheral section of cores (3A) located between the inner rotor (5) and the coils (16) and a second magnetic resistance is created on an outer peripheral section of the cores (3A) located between the outer rotor (7) and the coils (16). The ratio of these magnetic resistances may arbitrary be set by the arrangement of connectors (19).

    • A trunnion (3) of a toroidal continuously variable transmission comprises a pulley (38) having a pulley groove (30) and a notch (37) crossing the pulley groove (38). The trunnion (3) rotates in synchronism with another trunnion by looping an endless wire around the pulley groove of each trunnion (3) and by engaging a large diameter part of the endless wire with the notch (37). After the trunnion (3) is formed by die forging, a rotary tool (90) is first aligned with a boundary interface (31′A, 31′B) between the pulley groove (30) and notch (37). The tool (90) is then rotated while it is moved forward in the axial direction of the tool (90), and the boundary interface (31′A, 31′B) is cut to a predetermined position.

By setting the number of these salient poles equal to the magnetic pole number ratio of the first rotor (3) and second rotor (4), the number of salient poles is reduced.

    • Input and output cone discs are coaxially arranged. Power rollers are each operatively interposed between the input and output cone discs. Trunnions are rotatable supporting the power rollers respectively. An upper link has opposed ends to which upper ends of the trunnions are connected, and a lower link has opposed ends to which lower ends of the trunnions are connected. Shafts extend downward from the lower ends of the trunnions. Each shaft is connected to the corresponding lower end through a connecting pin. Pistons are associated with the shafts respectively. Each piston has a hollow boss portion which receives therein the corresponding shaft. The hollow boss portion has an upper end which faces toward the lower end of the corresponding trunnion. Articulated structures are associated with the trunnions respectively. Each articulated structure is arranged between the upper end of the hollow boss portion and the lower end of the corresponding trunnion, so that when a thrust force is applied to the trunnion in a direction to resiliently flex or bend the same, the trunnion is permitted to pivot relative to the hollow boss position in a direction to absorb the flex of the trunnion.
