    • PURPOSE:To reduce the leak without increasing the contact surface pressure and permit the captioned mechanical seal to endure for a long period under the severe conditions by forming a minute gap opened on the inner peripheral side of a sealed edge surface and forming a spiral groove which is tilted rearwardly in the relative shift direction on the sealed edge surface. CONSTITUTION:A minute gap 23 which is opened on the inner peripheral 22 side is formed at least on one out of the sealing edge surfaces of a following ring 2 and a seat ring 9, and a spiral groove 21 which is tilted on the rear side in the relative shift direction of the sealing edge surface is formed. Then, a pressure in the radial direction which can resist the leak flow is generated efficiently for the fluid interposed between the minute gap 23 on the sealed edge surface by utilizing the relative turning movement of the sealed edge surface by the formed spiral groove, and a nearly perfect sealing fluid film is formed on the sealed edge surface. Therefore, the leak of the sealing fluid can be reduced considerably without increasing the contact surface pressure, and the operation for a long time under the severe conditions is permitted.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce incurring of a thermal transfer loss and concentration of thermal stress, by a method wherein a high temperature cylinder is formed integrally with the housing part of a reproducer to form a dome-shaped cylinder, and an inner liner, partitioning a reproducer chamber from an expansion chamber, is located to the interior of the cylinder. CONSTITUTION:A dome-shaped cylinder 15 is provided for containing a high temperature cylinder and a reproducer housing part. An inner liner 16 is provided for partitioning a reproducer chamber from an expansion chamber, its upper part is engaged with the inner peripheral surface of the top part of the cylinder 15, and its lower part is engaged with the upper part of a cooler 6. A concentrical annular reproducer filler (reproducer) 5 is located between the cylinder 15 and the inner liner 16, and the concentric annular cooler 5, having its inner surface forming a surface of sliding over a displacer 9, is located within the cylinder 15. This enables reduction of incurring of the loss of a thermal transfer of a high temperature to the cooler 6 and concentration of thermal stress to the cylinder, and permits improvement of the thermal efficiency and durability of an engine.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent a displacer from slightly vibrating due to the lateral flex phenomenon of a displacer rod, by making the coupling section between the displacer and the displacer rod movable in the rotational and horizontal directions. CONSTITUTION:A displacer cap 19 is secured to a displacer skirt 20, and the inner race 25 of a lubricationless spherical bearing is attached to a displacer rod 24 by means of a fixture 26. Further, the outer diameter of outer race 27 of the lubricationless spherical bearing is made less than the bore diameter of a spherical bearing holder 20a to allow the spherical bearing to go away in the thrust direction. There are provided horizontally movable lubricationless annular flat bearings 28, 29, and therefore when the displacer rod 24 flexes in accordance with the reciprocating motion thereof, the inner race 25 of the special bearing is inclined and the flat bearings 28, 29 are moved in the horizontal direction, thereby the flex of the rod may be absorbed by the coupling section.

    • PURPOSE:To improve the coefficient of heat transfer of the heating pipe of a Stirling engine, make the pipe compact and reduce the engine's unavailable volume to heighten the compression ratio, by providing a spiral slender member around the heating pipe. CONSTITUTION:The working fluid of a Stirling engine is caused to flow through a regenerator 6, a heating pipe 7 and the high-temperature part 4 of a cylinder chamber. Heat exchange between the working fluid in the heating pipe 7 and combustion gas shown by an arrow A in the drawing is effected. A spiral slender member 12 is provided around the heating pipe 7 to disturb the flow of the combustion gas around the heating pipe and extend the surface of the pipe to improve the coefficient of heat transfer between the combustion gas and the working fluid in the heating pipe. The heating pipe 7 is shortened to reduce the drop of the pressure of the working fluid due to the friction on the wall of the heating pipe and diminish the unavailable volume of the engine to heighten the compression ratio of the engine.
