    • Systems and techniques relating to wireless communications are described. A described technique includes determining a primary access category for a transmission opportunity (TXOP) to transmit data to a primary wireless communication device, the primary access category being an access category included in a group of access categories that are associated with different transmission priorities, respectively; retrieving one or more primary data units belonging to the primary access category to transmit to the primary wireless communication device during the TXOP; determining a secondary access category for the TXOP, the secondary access category being an access category included in the group of access categories, the secondary access category having a transmission priority different from the primary access category; retrieving one or more secondary data units belonging to the secondary access category to transmit to a secondary wireless communication device during the TXOP; and transmitting spatially steered streams during the TXOP, the steered streams embodying the one or more primary data units and the one or more secondary data units.

    • A method for generating OFDM signals is implemented in a device operating according to a communication protocol. The protocol defines non-duplicate mode data units corresponding to single component channels of a BSS channel, and non-duplicate mode data units corresponding to sets of adjacent component channels. Non-duplicate mode data units corresponding to a set of component channels have more lower-edge and/or upper-edge guard tones than non-duplicate mode data units corresponding to single component channels. The method includes determining that a duplicate mode will be utilized for an OFDM transmission in the set of component channels and, in response, generating a duplicate mode data unit. The duplicate mode data unit has fewer lower- edge and/or upper-edge guard tones than a non-duplicate mode data unit corresponding to a set of component channels, and includes one duplicate of the non-duplicate mode data unit corresponding to the single component channel for each adjacent component channel.

    • A method in a communication device for processing a received data unit includes determining whether the communication device is an intended receiver based on the received data unit, determining whether the received data unit includes an exclusive use indication, where the exclusive use indication indicates that a plurality of data units are transmitted only to the at least one intended receiver during a time period, where each of the plurality of data units has at least a respective physical layer (PHY) preamble, and determining a time interval during which the communication device need not listen for incoming data units using (i) a result of determining whether the received data unit includes an exclusive use indication and (ii) a result of determining whether the communication device is an intended receiver.

    • In a method for generating a data unit, a signal field is generated to include a first subfield having one of: a length indication to indicate a number of bytes in a data portion of the data unit, or a duration indication to indicate a number of OFDM symbols in the data portion of the data unit and a second subfield to indicate whether the first subfield includes the length indication or the duration indication. When the first subfield includes the length indication, one or more padding bits are added to a set of information bits according to a first padding scheme. When the first subfield includes the duration indication, one or more padding bits are added to the set of information bits to according to a second padding scheme. Padded information bits are encoded, and the data unit is generated to included the encoded information bits.
