    • Apparatus in a crop roll forming machine for collecting particles of crop material lost from either the crop package or loose crop material during the roll formation process consisting of a collection pan, a horizontal collecting auger, an elevated delivery auger, intermeshing bevel gears, drive means and a discharge chute. The particles are recycled from the collection pan back into the roll forming region by the cooperative interaction of the horizontal collecting auger and the elevated delivery auger so that the crop material particles are directed out of the discharge chute and downwardly into the forwardmost portion of the bale forming region where the upper bale forming means works to include the particles in the crop roll being formed.

    • A roll forming machine picks up crop material and forms, twine wraps and discharges rolls or large round bales thereof as the machine is continuously moving across the field. The machine has a mobile frame supporting a pickup and a floor, the latter supporting a lower conveyor. A rear upper apron is movably supported on the frame above a rear portion of the lower conveyor and floor and defines a rear roll forming region therewith. A front upper apron is movably supported on the frame above a front portion of the lower conveyor and floor and defines a front roll forming region therewith having an inlet end and a discharge end. The front upper apron has a portion located at the discharge end of the region which is disposable in closely spaced relationship above the conveyor means and floor. The lower conveyor is operable to move crop material along one path from the inlet toward the discharge end of the roll forming region, while the front upper apron is movably operable to move crop material along another path generally upwardly away from the discharge end of the roll forming region. Two embodiments of means are disclosed which are movable with the upper apron and have portions which extend outwardly therefrom and into the space between the apron and lower conveyor at the discharge end of the region and are thereby effective to divert crop material upon its arrival at the discharge end of the region out of the conveyor path and into the apron path away from the discharge end.

    • A roll forming machine picks up crop material and forms, twine wraps and discharges rolls or large round bales thereof as the machine is continuously moving across the field. Mechanism on the frame is operable to adjust an inlet opening to the rear roll forming region between a first size to allow the delivery of crop material therethrough for forming a roll in the rear region and a second size larger than the first size and adapted to allow the transfer therethrough of the partially formed roll to the rear region. Further, controls as provided on the frame for controlling the operation of the inlet opening adjusting mechanism. The controls include a pivotally mounted paddle which is positioned for engagement by the transferred roll as the roll arrives in the rear region. Such engagement actuates the paddle to cause the controls to cause operation of the adjusting mechanism to adjust the inlet opening of the rear region from its second to its first size.
