    • PURPOSE:To prevent by-passing of steam and weaving phenomena and to improve the efficiency of gas-liquid contact by inclining the respective racks of a rack type gas-liquid contact device in the downgrade direction from a horizontal direction and making the differences in the liquid depth on the respective racks as small as possible. CONSTITUTION:In a gas-liquid contact device which is provided with many roughly horizontal gas-liquid contact racks 2 at prescribed intervals in a body 1 of a gas-liquid contact tower and is installed alternately laterally with downcomers 3 connecting the racks vertically, the racks 2 are inclined in the downgrade direction by an angle theta of inclination corresponding to the resistance of liquid flow in such a way that the liquid which is introduced from the bottoms of the downcomers 3, overflows from inlet weirs 5, flows onto the racks 2, flows by contacting with the steam ascending from openings 4 for passage of steam and flows downward by overflowing from outlet weirs 6 does not produce any difference in liquid depth on said racks. Since the size of the angle theta varies with the physical constants of materials to be handled and operating condition, the optimum value for the same is determined by preliminary experiment.

    • PURPOSE:To improve tray efficiency and to increase treatment capacity by dis posing mesh-like structural members in the froth layers of the gas-liquid mixed phases on each tray in order to fine the foam in the froth layers while maintaining the superficial velocity in a gas-liquid contact column relatively high. CONSTITUTION:A gas-liquid contact column body 1 is divided to a plurality of contact reaction chambers by means of gas-liquid contact trays 2, and these are connected vertically by means of downcomers 3. Vapor ascends by passing through the opening parts 4 of the trays 2, and enters the liquid phase retained between inlet and outlet weirs 5, 6, where it undergoes gas-liquid contact. On the other hand, liquid passes through the clearance at the bottom of the downcomer 3, overflows from the weir 5, flows onto the tray 2, and overflows from the weir 6 while contacting the steam. In this case, the gas-liquid contact state is in the form of froth of gas-liquid mixed phases, and forms a froth layer A between the weirs 5, 6. The small foams (b) produced in the opening parts 4 grow to large foams B as they ascend, and the leyer A arrives at the top surface. However, there are the mesh-like structural members 7 approximately parallel with the trays 2 in the layer A and therefore the foams B are again divided into small foams (c), whereby the gas-liquid contact areas are increased.
