    • A woven slide fastener stringer comprising a woven stringer tape and a coupling element assembly woven into the tape along its one longitudinal edge. The assembly includes a row of coupling elements spaced along and molded around a connector. Each coupling element has a pair of grooves extending transversely through a pair of first and second leg portions, respectively, on their respective outer sides. A pair of anchor threads extend through the grooves of the first leg portions and through the grooves of the second leg portions, respectively, along the full length of the coupling element row. A weft thread of the tape has a plurality of loops each encircling the connector and the anchor threads between adjacent coupling elements. Each loop of the weft thread is open widely, perpendicularly of the general plane of the tape, urging the anchor threads toward one another between adjacent coupling elements to hold the individual coupling elements firmly in position.

An apparatus for carrying out the method includes a frame having the mold members, and stringer tape advancing means, such means effecting suitable stretching of the part of the tape between the mold members so as to align the tape openings with the mold cavities.

    • An apparatus for attaching a pair of U-shaped end stops each having a pair of opposed clinching legs to the respective longitudinal marginal edge portions of a pair of slide fastener stringer tapes comprises a guide block provided with a pair of elongate slots in which are slideably mounted a pair of punches. The U-shaped end stops are slideably positioned in respective ones of the slots and are orientated such that the two legs are in slideable engagement with the slot walls and the ends of the legs face toward the pair of stringer tapes. The slots are provided with shoulders configured to engage with one of the legs of the end stops to effect turning of the end stops about the shoulders in response to movement of the end stops by the punches to thereby position the two legs of the U-shaped end stops on opposite sides of the stringer tape. Further movement of the punches effects clinching of the legs of the end stops to the stringer tapes. A method of attaching a pair of U-shaped end stops each having a pair of clinching legs to the respective longitudinal marginal edge portions of a pair of slide fastener stringer tapes comprises the steps of intermittently advancing the slide fastener stringer tapes lengthwise along a path of travel; delivering the U-shaped end stops toward the stringer tapes individually in a direction substantially normal to the path of travel of the stringer tapes with the end stop legs directed toward the path of travel; stopping the individual end stops short of the stringer tapes and retaining one of the legs of each end stop as an axis for rotation of the end stop; turning the individual end stops about one of its legs so as to place the legs of each end stop one over and the other below the longitudinal marginal edge portions of the stringer tapes with spaces left between both the legs and the longitudinal marginal edge portions; and clinching the legs about the longitudinal marginal edge portions while the stringer tapes are at rest.

    • An apparatus for mating a pair of slide fastener coupling elements carried on a pair of stringer tapes, respectively, includes a pair of guide wheels each having a plurality of peripheral teeth meshable with one of unengaged rows of coupling elements for guiding the same and for regulating distances between adjacent coupling elements of each row, and a pair of presser rollers for squeezing the unengaged rows of coupling elements to interengage the same immediately after the latter are released from the teeth of the guide wheels. The axis of each guide wheel is eccentric to that of one of the presser rollers. With this arrangement, the pair of rows of coupling elements can be mated nicely without obstruction or impairment by wheel teeth but while such regulated distances between adjacent coupling elements of each row remain.

    • A method and apparatus for manufacturing helically coiled coupling elements for slide fasteners. There are provided a filament supply unit, a filament coiling unit, a filament drive unit interposed between the supply unit and the coiling unit, and a tension-applying unit disposed between the drive unit and the coiling unit. As a filament is formed into a fastener element in the form of a continuous helical coil at the filament coiling machine, the filament is unwound from a relatively large bobbin in the supply device and at the same time is rotated about its own axis by a rotor of the supply unit at the same rate and in the same direction as the filament is coiled at the coiling unit to thereby eliminate twists on the filament which would otherwise be produced at the latter unit. The drive unit is also adapted to rotate the filament about its own axis while positivey feeding the filament toward the coiling unit. The tension-applying unit imparts constant tension to the filament and simultaneously equalizes the amount of supply of the filament from the drive unit with the amount of the filament being coiled at the coiling unit.

The tool includes a pair of relatively pivotable first and second members, each having at one end a handle.
