    • A catheter introducer assembly is disclosed whereby the safety spring clip moves into position to block the needle tip occurs as a direct consequence of the withdrawal of the needle from the catheter bore. The catheter introducer assembly according to the present invention comprises a needle and a needle hub, a catheter and a catheter hub, and a safety spring clip assembly. The safety spring clip assembly being designed to permit the needle to slide inside the spring clip assembly until the needle stop located on the needle meets the proximal wall to thereby prevent further movement of the safety spring clip. A method of using the catheter introducer assembly according to the present invention is also provided.

In certain embodiments, the syringes incorporate retractable carriages that can be retracted into the syringe barrels by engaging with the plungers. The carriages are configured to receive different needle hubs having any number of needle sizes. In certain other embodiments, the carriages are spring loaded so that as the plungers disengage the carriages from the syringe barrels, the springs automatically retract the needles into the barrels. Still in certain other embodiments, needle hubs with spring loaded needles are used with the syringes. The needles are retracted into the barrels when the plungers activate certain mechanisms incorporated into the hubs to thereby release the needles.

    • The present hinged shield assembly is configured to shield a needle to prevent needlesticks. The assembly comprises a base including a hinge, a first shield and a second shield. The first shield extends from the base and at least partially surrounds the second shield. The first and second shields are configured to pivot about the hinge. In some embodiments a distal end of the first shield is open. In other embodiments the first and second shields include sidewalls with channels extending therealong. The first and second shields are rotatable with respect to one another such that the channels in each may be aligned.     • The present disclosure is directed to a catheter insertion device, which has a catheter hub at the proximal end of a catheter, a tubular needle hub, at which a hollow needle is fixed and extends through the catheter hub and the catheter in a ready position such that the needle tip projects over the distal end of the catheter, a protective barrel which is received in the tubular needle hub in the ready position and is releasably connected to the catheter hub, and a pressure spring arranged between the needle hub and the protective barrel and which displaces the needle hub and the protective barrel apart from each other in an axial direction, wherein a manually operable holding member is provided between the needle hub and the protective barrel, and holds the needle hub in the ready position at the protective barrel against the bias of the pressure spring, so that after the holding member is released, the pressure spring moves the needle hub into a protective position in relation to the protective barrel, in which position the needle is positioned in the protective barrel.
