    • A Z-directed switch component is mountable within the thickness of the PCB having a conductive trace on at least one of a top surface and bottom surface thereof, at least one internal layer having an internal conductive trace between the top and bottom surfaces and a mounting hole passing through the conductive traces on at least two of the top surface, the bottom surface and the at least one internal layer of the PCB. The Z-directed switch component comprises an insulative body having a top surface, a bottom surface and side surface, a length L, and a cross-sectional shape that is insertable into the mounting hole in the PCB. The side surface has a channel disposed therein extending toward the top and bottom surfaces. A compressive conductive member is disposed in and along the channel and having a portion thereof extending out beyond the side surface of the body. A turning structure on one of the top and bottom surfaces of the body for rotating the body when inserted into the mounting hole, wherein, with the Z-directed switch inserted into the mounting hole, the compressive conductive member electrically interconnects the conductive traces on at least two of the top surface, the bottom surface and the internal layer when rotated into alignment therewith.

    • A Z-directed component for mounting in a mounting hole in a printed circuit board according to one example embodiment includes a body having a top surface, a bottom surface and a side surface. The body has a cross-sectional shape that is insertable into the mounting hole in the printed circuit board. A portion of the body is composed of an insulator. A first conductive channel extends through an interior portion of the body along the length of the body from the top surface to the bottom surface. The first conductive channel forms a signal path through the body. A second conductive channel and a third conductive channel each extends through the interior portion of the body along the length of the body. The second and third conductive channels are positioned next to and on opposite sides of the first conductive channel.

    • A Z-directed variable value component for insertion into a printed circuit board while allowing electrical connection to internal conductive planes contained with the PCB. The Z-directed variable value component mounts in a printed circuit board (PCB) having a mounting hole having a depth D therein and a plurality of conductive traces and comprises an insulative body of a length L comprising a top surface; a bottom surface; a side surface between the top and bottom surfaces; a cross-sectional shape that is insertable into the mounting hole in the PCB; and a first and a second electrically conductive channels on the side surface with the first channel and second channel both extending from one of the top and bottom surfaces; a plateable strip disposed on the side surface intermediate the top and bottom surfaces; and a first and second conductor disposed within the body, the first conductor electrically connected to the first channel and one end of the plateable strip and the second conductor electrically connected to the second channel and the other end of the plateable strip. In one form the plateable strip is comprised of a resistive material. In another form the plateable strip is comprised of a material having an electrical characteristic that changes when plating is applied to the strip after installation of the Z-directed component in the mounting hole of the PCB.

    • An electrophotographic image forming apparatus transfers image information relating to an image to be formed on a medium, while maintaining desired low levels of electromagnetic emissions. The apparatus includes an image processor that generates low-frequency image information signals containing the image information. A low-frequency interface is connected to the image processor for transferring the low-frequency image information signals. A control circuit, connected to the low-frequency interface, receives the low-frequency image information signals generated by the image processor. The control circuit operates on the low-frequency image information signals to form a high-frequency image information signal therefrom, where the high-frequency image information signal contains the image information. The apparatus also includes a high-frequency interface connected to the printhead control circuit for transferring the high-frequency image information signal. An image formation device, connected to the high-frequency interface, forms an image on the medium. The image formation device forms the image based on the image information contained within the high-frequency image information signal.
